Re: "Old Olive" 1970 C10 porterbuilt build

Ok, got the steering notches in and started to bolt on the front crossmember and ran into my first problem...

I've drilled out each frame hole to 9/16th's as instructed in the procedure, and have my two front bolts in. However the rear 2 holes in each side do not line up properly to get the other 4 bolts in...

BTW the very front factory crossmember is still in, the instructions didn't stay to remove it but I've seen most PB trucks with it out.

Any ideas from the experts??

The first pic is drivers side, second is passenger side. It flipped the images on me.

Re: "Old Olive" 1970 C10 porterbuilt build

the frame rails will flex use a starter punch to help align the holes or a ratchet strap to suck the rails together it all moves pretty easy. Keep up the progress it's looking good.

I'm hardly an expert but I took mine out. Use some ratchet straps to bring the frame rails together to line the bolt holes up. That worked for me. Hope that helps.

Re: "Old Olive" 1970 C10 porterbuilt build

nice looking truck, but i sure hate to see a nice looking original be moderinzed like this. IMO 20's,22's and 24's are not cool on these trucks. sorry it just my opinion. i am just a stock kinda guy with maybe a small (2/4) drop just to take out some of that wheel well gap.

But what if I'm a gangster? Then can I have gangster wheels?

Plus if I'm really feeling gangster, I take out my 64 Lincoln Continental for a cruise...

NICE !!!

I when from Intro 22"x11" rear and 20"x8.5" fronts to 20x8.5" front and 20x10.5" rears. I don't have an issue with gangster........ My truck just didn't look right to me with rims that big...... It's a personal preference thing. There is no right or wrong answer

Custom one-off 22" billet wheels that are a modern interpretation of the factory hubcaps.

Re: "Old Olive" 1970 C10 porterbuilt build

Got a little more completed on the truck. Porterbuilt V6 stage 3 drop member is in, upper hats and control arms.

Slowly but surely...

Any advice on whether I should powdercoat the lower arms before pressing in the lower ball joints?

I would recommend it I did on mine both upper and lowers so I didn't have to dissemble them again after mock up I wrapped them up to protect them. Keep up the progress it's looking good.

Dig the truck man! It was good to meet you, you've got to bring that by the shop once its rolling.

I'm was also considering those Hill's inner fenders, curious to see them installed.
