Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)
Saturday I started in on the front end. Im going to re-build everything up there. New wheel bearings, all new upper and lower ball joints, complete polyurethane control arm bushings and new brake rotors, and complete steering rack replacement. IE inner/outer tie rods and drag link and idler arm. I have only completed one side, but OMG its feels so much more solid. Took the sloppy right out of it.

Well I got the front driver side finished, new rotors/bearings/bushings/SS brake lines/upper & lower balljoints, and the 2" drop spindle.

Also picked up a matching pair of solid OE bedsides and a new rear cross sill.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)
What did you do about the cab / chassis trade?
If it was up to me, I'd keep the 3 window cab. I think they are "cooler" and there were less of them made. |

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)
Yeah I went and looked at the five window cab but it was junk no deal. However tomorrow morning I'm going to be driving down the hill from where I live to go look at a supposedly superclean three window 50 cab. The guy says it needs no metalwork, we will see. I'll be the first to admit I am a little bit scared to cut out all my cab corners and the floor etc. etc. so I'd rather have a cab that needs no metal patchwork

I also love the gauges, been looking at the same set for my project. Be sure to give us some feed back once you have them set up.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)
Cal daddy, I'm not sure why I only just found this thread, but it is great.
Do you know what steering column you used? I'm going to have a pretty tight clearance on my '54 so I'd like to see what will work. Also have you, or anyone else here gotten into cutting the inner fenders? I started mocking up the front sheet metal last night and those inner fenders take up way too much space in the engine bay.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)
Small update, i found a KILLER deal on a very clean 1950 3 window CAB only very near my home. I pulled the trigger and now im going to use this cab and sell the other one. here is it. has only 1 rust hole and I already started replacing the driver side outer panel.
