Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
What's up guys long time no post. I fell into some hard times money wise and it's taken me forever to get caught. But i can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm almost there. The dream and motivation is still there just not the funds but hopefully soon we will get some progress

Hang in there, hopefully you can get back on top of things soon. Seems like obstacles pop up to test your will. Sometimes health, family or money can really test our project patience.

We all encounter different obstacles, but if we keep our dreams alive we can get through anything. Then drive our truck.

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
been there man, last truck killed me. I don't even see how i could fund anymore of my projects the way my life is now. its been nice working on a truck that isn't mine and I can make money doing it (current build). The ONE nice perk about having say a body that is ruff. You can make all your patches and weld them in. I had 150 hrs in my last cab, included some paint but mostly patch work. You can get a 4x10 18g sheet around my parts for 60 bucks, if you have the welder already then boom you are set. Same with moching up the body on your dime frame. you can make all your mounts dirt cheap. So there is always something that can be done that doesn't require a ton of loot. Just keep at it.

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Thanks guys still plugging away on trying to get everything caught up. 99 i definitely have a lot of patch work to do so hopefully I can get some sheet metal soon and bust out some patch work. Im gonna start with the floor first. Just gonna do the sides and leave the middle out until I can get a motor and trans to see how big a trans tunnel I need. Has anyone tried the flat body mounts that aren't elevated off the frame being that the truck gonna be bagged and lay frame not sure how much clearance I'll have dependent on which mounts I decide to use

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
This looks like the boot barn around 45 and 517...I bet we have some mutual friends being into the same trucks and everything. Thanks for checking out my build, I'm following yours as well. We don't always have the resources to work on them but that just makes it better when we can.

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Tonight I've decided that it's time to start busting my ass on this thing. The reason there's been no progress are from poor career and finicial decisions that I've made and I fought tooth and nail the past 2 years to get caught up. And I'm almost there. And my goal is to drive by the end of next year. So when I finally get cought up its go time

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Thanks 51 just trying to get my game plan together as far as what obstacle to tackle first since I'm gonna notch the rear and go with 4 link I'm thinking I need to get a bagged rolling chassis first then figure out how I'm gonna go about mounting the body and running boards. I want it to sit as low as possible just dont really know what options I have as far as body mounts. If any one has any input it'd be greatly appreciated or pics and measurements are better

I would say definitely get to a roller and the body/bed mounts can be done based on that. I know some have made the body sit higher on the frame and everything moves up so they can actually lay frame. I'm pretty sure it's explained in the S10 swap thread that was already mentioned. Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Whats up fellas. Well spent the majority of Sunday and tonight after work cleaning and organizing our shop. Both myself and my roommate spent a lot of time cleaning and organizing it again crazy how quick it can turn into choas. Don't have any update on progress just still plugging away on gettimg everything caught up and getting my plan of action together. I have having my roommate get my cab mounts cut out on his works water jet so I'll finally get some mounts together. Put the cab on the frame laying on the ground for ****s amd grins wish it'd sit that low with running boards

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Hey Big moss Looks good. You could make your own running board brackets and tuck them right up to the cab. That's what I did mine are about 1.5" below the cab.

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Lower50 for sure man I like how low yours sits. Do you have and more pictures or details on how you did your bodymounts? I'm running an ls drivetrain so I don't think !y trans tunnel would be as large as yours is. But thanks for any input man. I've got another rookie question how do you remove the seat riser from the bottom of the floor spot welds????? These are the drawings im having cut out for my body mounts I guess I could cut them down of I wanted to make it sit lower

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
To get the seat out I sanded the lip so I could see the spot welds then used a spot weld drill. The ones I couldn't drill I used a cold chisel.
My body mounts I made where just 4" angle iron 1/4" thick with gussets. In the first pic you can see the body mounts are about 1/2" below the top of frame and I used s10 bushings. Second pic you can see how the back is on the frame. Hope that helps.

Re: 51 chevy 3100 5 window build
Whats up guys made some progress this week since work is shut down this week for the holidays. I got my cab mounts made, capped the front frame horns and repaired where I had to cut out the p.o crappy welded motor mounts. Pucking up some 2x4 this weekend to build my back half for the frame.
