I moved the access hole more to the center and I'm using one piece windows with a power lift that is mounted in the center of the door. i asked for the lift for christmas...it's only $430.00 for the setup and is specifically made for 67-72 chevy trucks
power windows it's under the power window category in their electronic catalog. I'm in the process of acquiring some land and a shop... this time next year? I'd be glad to do your truck... as long asyou pay by the hour:p this taking alot longer than I thought. Last edited by Suicide-D; 10-09-2003 at 10:41 PM. |

<<<Well that's how I feel right now. Where do I start...These hinges will not work on our trucks. Unless you are skinny as a rail and don't mind backing into the truck to sit down. Because of the area of the lower body line that comes to a point. it only allows the door to open less than 45 degrees. I mounted the hinges as close to the outer skin as possible and it just doesn't have enough throw to get the door out enough to clear the skin. I have adjusted this and tweeked to no end and it still hits... I have even gone as far as taking the outer door skin off and flattening the lip of the door to match the inner skin and adjusting the mounting bolts to where the entire front of the door is up against the A pillar(I even ground it off more)and it STILL hits. I did all of this Friday night and all I could do was think about this all weekend because I had to work and had no time to work on the truck.
Well with all that said I think I have come up with a solution, but I'm afraid it means the boxes will have to come out. I have already modelled my new hinge design in Autocad and I gained about an inch more throw. I will take precise measurements this evening and draw it up in cad to make sure before I proceed any further. If anyone is thinking of doing this proceed with caution... I don't think the hinges from Autoloc would work either, or wait for the Guinea Pig to finish.... I will update when I have solved the problem. |

I'm doing the same mod. But you are way ahead of me.
I got the idea while junk yarding for my Lasabre tilt hood brackets. I found a 1978 Jeep Grand Cherokee and swiped the hinges off both doors for a mere $30.00 They are similar to yours but have a little curve in them giving the extra throw you so desperatly need. If you see one open the doors you will see what I mean. I will try to get a digital pic tonight and post tomarrow. Might be just as easy and cheap to raid your local boneyard as I did. I just walked around all day till I found a door that opened away from the vehichle. I opened doors all day. And Jeep was the winner.

Well I solved my problem, I modelled it in Autocad and I will have about 1/2 an inch clearance at full 90 degrees. Now, to remove the old boxes without destroying my cab and re-do it all. Fun Fun

Here are the hinges off the Jeep Grand cherokee 76-78 I think. They swing away from the body and the little bend helps alot. Go to the junk yard and open one then it makes sense.
