Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
Won't get a chance to work on truck this weekend, but I did score some new tools.
I found a Lincoln 100SPT Welder on Facebook Marketplace. Guy was selling it for $200 and it looked brand new. Said he used it once to fix a gate. I ended up also buying a 20 gallon air compressor from him as well. I can't wait to get some scrap metal to practice on. Y'all have a good weekend! |

Frame is 90% painted!
All I need to do is flip over and finish the top of the frame rails. It's going slow, but I'm making baby steps. Y'all have a good week! |

Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
So I stumbled across a good deal for a 4L60E trasnmission. I'm looking into which flexplate I will need and I'm having trouble finding one. The engine is a GEN 1 350 small block. Can you guys point me in the right direction. Motor is internally balanced so flexplate will need to be neutral.

what wheels you plan on running?.....looks like the same wilwood front brakes I used.....vendor sold them to me saying they would fit with 15 inch wheels....but they wouldn't clear my crager street stars

Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
So, I've been pretty busy this weekend.
Picked up some very nice used wheels/tires Friday from a very nice guy. He has a 72 fleet-side and I introduced him to the page. Hopefully he will be setting up an account. I got home Friday and couldn't wait to mount the first wheel. I woke up this morning and mounted the other three. It is so exciting to have my truck back on wheels! Next plans are to focus on the engine. Will begin cleaning/overhauling. Will probably do the bare minimum and only change heads, cam, and intake. This is what I'm starting with. Y'all have a good weekend! |

Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
Time for another update!
I had to buy the CPP track bar due to my aftermarket differential cover. I got it installed this week. I picked up a trans cross member for my rebuilt 700R4. And finally, I broke down and bought an Eastwood flaring tool for my stainless brake lines. I got the brake line material for free from a friend so what I paid for the tool didn't hurt too bad. I'm still tinkering with the engine. I picked up some cheap motor mounts from Autozone but was not happy with them, so I ordered some Energy Suspension motor mounts from Summit. Those should be here Monday. I still plan on pulling the heads and having a valve job done. I still plan on doing what I can during winter, but I will also be stocking up on parts for when things calm down a little. Y'all have a good weekend! |

Are you going to use the Boyd electric fuel pump too?

Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
Good morning everyone!
I received my gas tank Wednesday and boy is it a work of art. I got off work early yesterday and came right home to mount it. I'm off next week for Thanksgiving and plan on installing the fuel pump and running fuel line. Y'all have a blessed Thanksgiving. |

Nice truck!!! Was the body tank a direct fit, and also what options did you choose?

It is made by Boyd Welding. I ordered last Thursday and it was here by Wednesday. Very quick turnaround and great service. https://www.fueltankparts.com/67-72-...-bed-fill.html It is a standard tank that they make. I chose the following options when ordering:

Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
December Update!
I took my heads to the machine shop to be surfaced and checked for cracks. My valves were pretty worn so I had new valves and springs installed. When I picked up the heads I also purchased a new intake. It's an Edelbrock AirGap knockoff. I changed my mind on the fuel pump setup with my Boyd Tank. I ended up returning the Carter pump I bought and went with the internal setup from Boyd. I installed the pump and began running the wiring for it. Today I focused on installing my heads. I used new ARP bolts and Felpro head gaskets. I've still got the old timing chain cover on because I haven't bought the new one yet. I want to go with the Edelbrock two piece setup. I couldn't help but to throw my intake and valve covers on to get an idea of where I'm headed. That's it for now. I will paint the heads sometime in the next few days. I need to begin running fuel line to wrap up the tank install. Y'all have a good weekend! |

Re: Matt's 1970 C10 Thread
Why did you change your mind on the Carter and how do you like the Boyd pump. Will you need to add a return?

With the Boyd tank, I will have to remove 6 bolts, unplug the harness I created, and disconnect the AN fuel lines from the hard lines to drop the tank. Not too much work in my eyes. I will need a return, but that isn't too big of an issue. I'm running hard lines along the frame and will use some type of AN line from tank to frame rail and frame rail to engine. I will also need a regulator to drop pressure for a Carb setup. I plan on going with the Sniper setup in the future so now my fuel system will be ready for that or whatever EFI system I may go with. |
