Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

First we drillled the hole for the firewall pass through grommet for the engine harness
Then we welded a tab to bend and hold the starter wires
Here’s the firewall masked and wet sanded
Here it is in one color
Much easier to tell where it needs work, and there are a few places

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

then we dragged over a mock up engine and started designing the engine cover
this is the template for the coil covers
The lines are where we intend to bead roll

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We did figure out the coil covers though. We have to re-make the left one, screwed up the bead roll.

The transfer of the templates to steel
The mock up of the passenger coil cover, it’s out of position and not fastened down yet
We will be building a center cover, I just need these figured out first

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We started the day working the firewall. Bodywork where it needed touchup
And then a final coat of filler

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

we wound up re-making both coil covers, the bead roll wasn’t as straight as I thought
Here’s the finished product
we primed both sides
Tomorrow we build the intake cover and work on the outside of the cab

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

so we pretty much worked on the engine cover all day. This is what $30 worth of specialty hardware gets you
so once we had attachment figured out we could begin designing the intake cover

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

the crease is just for templating, won’t be there in steel. The lines represent bead rolls
The idea was a round cover to go with the round lines of the truck

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

The firewall has about done
Here’s the engine cover, now we still have some bending and tweaking to do, but you get the idea
the last pic is an idea we had. Putting an oval hole in the side of the engine cover to use the fender supports

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

i don't know, something is messing with my eye ... the big center cover just seams kinda too much. maybe the back could be cut in kind of like the front cuts out, just less?. maybe a step between the intake and coil covers to break up the solid plane? maybe i'm missing the look with the rest of the fender and rad covers, or maybe i'm nutz and am just the guy who never really likes full covers too.

but i don't have your final vision, so i shall stay tuned!

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We’ve discussed cutting the back of the intake cover and decided against it. The owner is delighted with the look.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We worked on that hinged center grill
I think it came out looking pretty sharp!
Monday we’ll make the radio plate that goes behind
Unless you have strong objections, I am going to paint the center of the grill and glovebox door dashboard color
And we finally got that right speaker pod in!

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

nice touch with the hinged speaker grill.

What are you going to use for a latch? magnet?

Thanks for sharing these ideas,
