OK, the first time I made the engine mounts I made sure I had decent room to run the intermediate shaft down to the steering gear. Then I decided to move the engine back 1 1/2" to make sure I had room for accessory. Don't do like me, just buy your radiator / fan and mock everything up to check clearance.

Anyway, with the engine back 1 1/2" I have plenty of room if I decide to run a front drive system. When I did that I lost focus on keeping the path clear for the intermediate shaft and put the engine mount right in the way. Yes, I could work around it with enough u-joints and I decided to just redo the mounts for the third time.

Ordered up some Dirty Dingo universal slider mounts for this time. They are really nice pieces.

The frame side bracket for the mount from Dirty Dingo was still going to be in the way of the intermediate shaft and I needed a different solution for the frame side.

Donandal has an awesome build going and I had just looked at how he did his frame bracket, much like a cradle holding the rubber biscuit.

So, I made use of a piece of 4" box tubing the same thickness as the Dirty Dingo bracket and my son in law whittled out a bracket with legs that extended over the top of the frame.

If I did it again, I would have the bolt closer to the frame. In this case I will gusset under the mount .... and not get in the way of the intermediate shaft.

Dave from Hollister Road Company shipped in the fill tubing and the fill pipe. They are really nice pieces with beaded ends. Dave even took the time to paint them.

Once I saw the elbow I knew it would be too tall to clear the floor. I emailed Dave and asked if he could ship me a rubber elbow like the one pictured. This was on Saturday while I was helping a friend with an LS install in a 66 Pontiac wagon. Dave emailed back in just a few minutes and said he could ship me a rubber elbow, or I could mark the steel elbow where it needed to be, ship it to him and he would cut and re-bead it. Instead of making a sale, Dave provided me the solution when he emailed me the link to the beading tool he uses. I ordered the tool...any excuse for a cool tool....and will change it myself. Dave is awesome.

Started setting up the mounting for the tank and I am basically copying what Dave did with the red truck he had a build thread on.

I think we have good positioning up / down / fore / aft / left / right and a plan for the mounting. Little tie down straps were useful for suspending the tank to figure out the mounting. Plan to get back to that next week end.

My 9" center section came in too. Pat from Fast Shafts in Des Moines, IA provided this one and the one for my '56 Chevy. Basically I duplicated what is in the '56 with 3:70, posi and of course all rebuilt with new gears.

He does a lot of these for all the dirt track racers out there and really knows his business. Plus it is much less money than the Moser / Currie / Strange units available.

Looks good Doug.. What are the two areas of your rear brace that looks like you added a couple of plates for? Compressors?

Good eye Marc and thanks. The plates will support the stands for the top of tank brace. Once I play around with it more I might change it. Right now I am thinking the stands will also be a good place for a tab with a through bolt for the tank straps.

Basically, I am following the general idea David with Hollister Road Company did here. My stands will be taller as my tank is placed higher in the frame...at least right now.

Love what you've done so far ... I didn't see this mentioned but have you thought of triangle supports UNDER the lower mounts? Looks like a lot of pressure will be hanging on those pieces despite you weld work - which looks great... Just ask'n.

Thanks r46. Always appreciate your thoughts and I still have the 99r46 boxes on the shelf. Yes I agree about the mounts and will be gusseting underneath both of them.

Here are a few pics of the 88 Dually for you. I bought this one from the original owner who mostly had it in his garage in Las Vegas. He and his wife retired, moved back here to a neighboring place and I bought it. He wanted to make sure I had indoor storage for it before he would sell it to me. Original, rust free, 95k miles and a bit dusty as I use it in nice weather. It is a San Karr conversion which was all the rage in the 1980's.

Thanks Lower, I am not near as fast as you or many of the guys here.

I get "fabrication block" and I stare at something for a long time before I figure out what might work. It took me most of a day to put the upper tank stands together. And they still need strap hangers and tank stops to keep the tank from moving fore and aft. That will probably take me at least half a day. All ok as it keeps me off the golf courses....like that would really happen.

Grandsons like to play with scooters in the shop too. Good times!

Thanks for sharing that I have a friend with a 95 Starline conversion 1500 we are dropping a Caddillac 500 and 4L80E into I didnt care for it at first but with all the time around it, it has really grown on me if yours ever needs a good home I could find a spot in the garage for it
