Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So one more post before the new year. I added the full word TRANSMISSION under the gauge instead of TRANS. I just felt all the gauges use full words and this one shortened just looked out of place. Have a happy new years everybody.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Well I wanted to mount the mirror remote in the door panel but the lip isn't wide enough and the raised insert gets in the way. I kind of figured this might happen. Soooo....... I don't have many options here. I hate to make holes here on the door top or in the dash above the ac vent but that's all I really have. What are your guys opinions here? Any other cars out there you have seen that have mirror locations like these 2?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

i think on the door looks good and more like where they would have put it if it was stock. Dash doesnt look bad either though, but sounds like a lot more work to get it routed.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I don't think I like the dash the more I look at it. I found this picture of a period car. The door looks like the best option for this. And it's right across from the mirror so it makes sense what its for. Now do I do it right in the corner or in the center of the vent window?

I agree. The more I look at era gm cars door panels they're I think if this was factory that's where it would be.

The corner.
Because the cables need to have room to operate and not be in a bind.

The cables had room to move in the Cadillac's that I rode in years ago.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

It is one of the harder mods I have done to make look stock because I couldn't use gm stuff. Just for reference I used a combination of 3 different mirrors to make this work. A passenger and driver aftermarket 1964 chrysler imperial mirrors (driver was the only one with remote) mostly for the new chrome housings. The passenger was a nos mid 1970's chrysler mirror from a new yorker. I needed it because I could not find an aftermarket mirror with longer cables and a slim remote for under dash. With a few modifications to the parts this is what I came up with. I was worried I was doing this for nothing but it turned out great. Definitely worth it and looks stock. Definitely could not have done this without chrysler parts though. Gm stuff was just made to vehicle specific which in other parts was totally opposite.

thanks for breaking it down I was looking at past posts to see what mirrors you got and was realizing it was a process to get where you are now. Nice work! glad you stuck it out, because it goes great and does look stock

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So I got this mirror plaquard with the oem mirror I purchased but it wasn't possible the way it was made to work with the truck door panel the way it was made so I machined the back off of it, I left the positioning studs and threaded one so I could use it on my door. Here's what I came up with.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Hard times in the truck world lately so I decided to do something small to keep moral up. I am modifying my headlight switch to dim my led dash lights. I am adding a reostat that will dim them. I removed the old reostat and filed out the ceramic to use the new one. Here's where I'm leaving off for today.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

This is one of the builds I have always checked in on. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

Great build, Rg

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Lol most times I don't either. I jump around quite a bit between projects. Mostly because I seem to be always waiting for some parts to arrive on another project. It all has to get done before it drives I guess.

I know, I'm always looking for filler projects while waiting on the delivery guys!

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Well success. I can now fully dim my led dash lights properly using the headlight switch. That simple switch has really gotten busy with extra stuff. https://youtube.com/watch?v=ocLLov0AWvw&feature=shared

That's cool with the new reostat.
