Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

Once again Im going with hammered past the ground. I bought my truck off of a good ol boy, I could only imagine what he would say if he saw it.....hahahahahahahaha Some people say that Im making JUNK out of a perfectly good truck others want to have theres just as low if not lower. Also there is no way these trucks can be drove that hammered " Dont make a comment THUNDER" thats why with a flip of a switch your moon ridin again. I bet one thing, these trucks with air ride roll smoother than stock suspension.

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

1st of all stock doesn't suck ! I love these trucks and plan on building a staic dropped stock(2 tone, rallys etc..) version later. I did the same thing with my 1st gen Camaros. I have the 67 thats a fullout drag car w/ 14 point cage etc.. and I have the 68 rs/ss I have been restoring since I was younger. I am into "cars" for myself and noone else, and I respect peoples decisions. I may not like them (hummer clip on NBS chevy) but I will tell them to push on. and yes you can drive the truck hammered but of coarse it depends on the road conditions (drive wise) I set it up to where my alignment is just right with the body 2-3" off the ground and thats where I will drive until of course I need to TURN then yes at the flick of a switch I will look like a boat in the water. then back to land I go. Nitrogen refills arent much around here

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

I was talking about the a-arms for a lowered truck, not the trucks themselves. And if you find a stock 69 camaro down there let me know Im lookin for one.

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

When the drivetrain is installed we are going to wrap the new inner fender panels up and around to the front hood section over the radiator support for a smooth and clean look. Man I wanna drive this thing already !

Every time I look at your truck all I think is holly hammered. How did this guy get it to lay out so hard. Inner fenders are lookin sick. I might try to bite a small bit of your idea on this one.

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

you use the bolts under the door, by the cowl, and then undo the radiator support, and take it off in one piece like the bed lol. It's all pretty stiff. It will be much stronger when completed though.

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

I bodydropped it. Z'd etc.. They helped with the bedwork control arms and fender mods. I am going to blast and prime the truck this weekend. Then I will do the bodywork and primer seal it. Then it wont be too long before I drop the drivetrain in rewire it and DRAG on down the road !!

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

Got the bed primed but I found some spots I didnt know about until I blasted it. Fixing those now and still trying to smooth the front clip welds down when time permits.

Sadly no... just bodywork. Relentless grinding, filling, and smoothing. I am going to buy stock in 3M for all the seam sealer I am going to use in the bed lol.

The 3M panel glue I used when I double-walled my bed was pretty amazing stuff... it has enough of a cure time that it's fairly self-leveling if you rough it in with a spreader. I used some of the leftover material along the floor-to-inside-wall weld, since it was spot welded. The panel glue squeezed right into the cracks and leveled off pretty well. When the stuff kicks over, it's got a similar consistency as JB Weld, but slightly more pliable. So, in short... "seam sealer" on steroids.

Re: "DOORED" my truck this weekend

Man, that looks better and better every time I see it.

I like the looks of the wicked low trucks when they are done right. I like the looks of stock trucks as well when done right. My truck is going bags so I can go low or not. That's one of the advantages of bags if you don't go extreme. Stock is cool, but if I feel like low and slow, just drop it and go!

<edit> also the long beds don't look as cool when they are too low most of the time and I like my long bed.

I almost got the million pounds of welds on the bed floor smoothed out and getting it ready to get LINE-X sprayed. Anybody here got line-x ?

Here's some on fleabay for a reasonable price. You need a special gun to apply it (caulking-type gun that uses mixer tips to combine the 2 materials together). The one I linked above is $250. I've seen them on Austin Craigslist for half that price. I borrowed one from the then local paint store.

Edit-- you'll need a couple of mixing nozzles as well. They're one time use. When the stuff kicks over (90+ minutes) the nozzle is dead.
