56 Cameo build

Fired it up the other night. It sputtered and stalled twice but then smoothed out and runs. No leaks, but the bad news is no throttle. I've searched for loose wires and bent pins but no luck yet. Hooked up the OBD2 port and check engine light. No codes and the light goes out after it starts. You can rev it up manually but just runs at fast idle on its own. Not recognizing a component somewhere or I'm missing a ground.
Cut, bent and installed the last piece of brakeline so if I had the throttle figured out I could drive it around the block.

Started on a new project. One of the other builders cut a fiberglass cap for a 59 fleetside bed so I figured it was worth a try. I found one on craigslist and got it for $300 so I won't be out a fortune if it doesn't work. I needed something to finish off the top of the bedsides anyway.
My goal is to get it as low as possible so I can take out the blocks you see in the pictures.

It is heavier than I thought it would be. Should help the ride.

Got it down a little lower last night by trimming the front side edges. Should be about right.
A friend scored on a set of hinges that will move the front edge back when you lift the top. Should help with front edge to cab issues.

I can in all honesty that the cameo has never really appealed to me. But yours gas really caught my attention

Love your build. Thanks for the pictures on the Porsche side mirror install - that sure looks slick. I plan to steal this idea when I get to that part of mine - but maybe using the teardrop style 968 mirrors.

I didn't have a good cameo endgate but had a rusted out one with decent latches in ( they worked anyway ) so I cut out the latches, welded them into a regular endgate, then we glued a piece of aluminum on the inside to cover the chevrolet stamping. I have the endgate cover that I bought new and will put it on tomorrow night when the primer is dry. I need to have it done to see how I am going to do the back of the cap.

Moving forward on the cap. Scribed and cut it to match the back of the cab, reinforced under the hinges, cut front pieces to finish the front, put in a 4" piece of plywood the length of the cap and screwed in place before we finish the center seam.

Picked the truck up from the paintshop last week. He was to take it in April, but just got it into his schedule last month. It was worth the wait! I had welded all the seams on the inside so he filled all of them and did a super job on the interior and jams. The door fit is awesome. Now to put everything together for the final time without too many marks. It's very intimidating! I want to insulate the firewall, put in the wiring harness, then solve all the issues with gauges, charging, etc. before we set the front on. Sorry, I posted this before but wanted it on my buildsite.

Got the firewall insulation glued in. This time I used Weldwood contact cement and brushed it on. Personally I liked it better than the spray on. I have a heavy rubber mat with insulation glued to it to go over the silver insulation on the firewall. Then I can start wiring .

A few months ago I ran across this build. Just about a hour ago I found some seats very similar, 3rd row out of a Denali for $100. I am building a 59 Chevy fleetside with airbags.

Any Chance you could post more about the seat sliders you built?

Well Spaztikjohns, not too difficult. I got the seat adjusters at a swap meet so I don't have any info on them. When I got the plates cut and sized for the seats, I turned the seats upside down and made slots big enough so the latches fit in with no clearance issues. Then I put 1/2" bolts in the latches like they would be when locked. Then I marked their positions and welded them to the plate. That way you can take the seats out anytime you need to. I also sloped the angle iron we welded to the ribs in the cab so it would bring the seats up for a shorter person. Not perfect but I think it will be fine for what I wanted. Hard to find a seat that doesn't go up into the back window and has the seat belt and shoulder harness built in. Hope this helps.

Started to put the wiring harness back in, but got frustrated after a while and decided to do the mirrors. All of the research paid off, I really like them!
Had Wait-For -Me Performance do my harness a couple of years ago and after countless hours and a few phone calls we realized they sent me the wrong wiring diagram. Then they told me they were done and wouldn't send me the right diagram. Told me to just get one for that vehicle on my own. I'm going to get on the LSX site for some guidance.
