As my truck sits today...
I have bought another bed, and I am still not happy with it... If you know of anyone with a nice solid bed in northern California, please let me know... My Crazy neighbor... I love that guy (Not in a gay way)... Acura NSX Seats... What do you think? |

The turbo to the Cummins...
More powder coating... The bottom photo of the blue 83' is the color I am considering for the crew cab... Thank you guys for your comments... I look forward to reading your thoughts, and suggestions. Your complements help keep me motivated... I think all "Wyo-Tech" Grads should start a blog on how pathetic the school really is... There are plenty of great instructors, and valuable lessons that are thought, but the corporate aspect of the school is as crooked as our government! Trust me when I tell you they are out to rip you off, and only care 50% on your actual education.... F*&K Them! |

Re: Custom 1987 GMC Crew Cab Short Bed
I understand what you mean by trying to juggle finances with building your project(s).
My motives are purely to build a truck that can do anything I could ever want it to do, be comfortable, fuel efficient, cheap insurance, cheap registration, and it will all be paid for buy "Horse Trading" (No finance charges or monthly payments)... Cool Less overhead expenses = Less stress We all have junk lying around... Get off your butt(s) and start liquidating... You might just find a complete restoration in your piles of so called junk... Just in case any of you are struggling to stay motivated or can't find the energy to finish what you started, let me give you just a sneak peak into my life: Husband and Father...24/7 Full Time Student...3 of 5 days per week 9 hrs per day Self Employed (TLC sales and restoration).... 40-60 hrs per week New litter of 7 puppies.... (Shoot me)...24/7 (3) other dogs, and (3) Cats building a new shop fencing in my yard (replacing old fencing) cast as a leading role in the next college production play Church every Sunday All this and a whole lot more, and I still find the time to through into my Crew Cab... Just do it.... NIKE |

Re: Custom 1987 GMC Crew Cab Short Bed
Great looking build ! What size tires and wheels are on the truck ? I'm doing a similar build but going 12 valve , NV4500 and 205 .
I believe I am going to run a Toyo tire , possibly a 38 . I'm going to plate and box the front of my frame . I am also going with ORD's 1" body for some extra clearance for the bell housing . Are you planing on steering crossover ? From what I am told the 8" lift feels 100% different with the crossover . greg |

Custom 1987 GMC Crew Cab Short Bed
Absolutely! When lifting a truck over 6" it's practically imperative to convert to a cross-over steering setup.
To achieve this setup you will need the following: -2wd Steering Box (360 degree splines allow for proper pitman arm placement) -Flat top passenger side steering knuckle that will need to be machined for studs to allow passenger side steering arm attachment (OR) a cross over steering knuckle from a wide variety of after market distributors. -Dropped pitman arm -Proper length Drag link The Wheels and tires I am using are 17X10 KMC XD series wheels on 37X14.5X17 Toyo AT tires (I would have gone MT's but they were offering $200 per tire at Les Schwab)... I'll be posting update photos soon... My wife is pregnant, so things have gotten a little busy around the house... |
