Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Thanks everyone. Why the 68 front clip? I've always liked the 68 front end the most and my 72 front end was junk so what better time to get what I wanted..
I'll get some pics of the filler tomorrow, too dark right now. The caps came from lugnutking on epay. They were about $5 each. The truck still hasn't made it very far from the house. Still need to check trans and rear end oil and pick up some more antifreeze. Last edited by usmcchevy; 09-20-2010 at 02:29 AM. |

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Took her on her first trip out of the housing area. Made it to the gas station about a 1/2 mile away and back. I still need to work on the fuel filler a bit. It leaks a little where I took a slice out of the exhaust adapter to re form it and make it so 1.25" OD hose could slip on. Also need to adjust the choke, but other than those two problems she drove great.
It really needs to cool down around here, I'm sick of the camera lens fogging ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All I did to mount the hinge was grind two small notches for the original hinge blots to sit. Nice and solid, no need to weld any for the hinge. I did need to bend the hinge slightly to get the lens to sit right. ![]() The welds are ugly....I was having problems lol. The filler is mounted using a strap of 1/8 steel and then the strap is screwed to the bed. The filler "bucket" is just mounted to the filler, not screwed in at all, but it fits good and solid. ![]() |

Thanks!

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
I just want to see the mounts really, and cpp installed, good work on the build, driving it during the build would be the answer, shouldn't have started rippin mine apart, but the cab had to be swapped and it's not a daily, super jealous

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Thanks guys. The reason I'm trying to get it to be a driving project is I already destroyed one of these trucks. I was 15 when I got my '70, blew up the motor and tore down the whole truck for restoration when I was 17. I ran out of time, space and money. I ended up selling it as a pile of parts when I was 22 when my dad was sick of looking at it.
Took the truck to CTC today. Need to do something with the choke, floods every time I try to start it when warm. Heres the rear suspension pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by usmcchevy; 10-06-2010 at 02:09 AM. |
