Re: "TANGERINE" (C20 to K10) (LWB to SWB) (CST/MOD) (5.3)

Man this is crazy! I would have never thought to do this, I would have been stuffing late model goodies under the dash like Drew. I can see how this could be used to make a crew cab truck too. I'd like to see some more close ups on the 8th wonder and how it fits between late model firewall and the upper portion of the old cowl.

Hey bundeber, welcome to all the fun! Here are some pics of the 8th wonder in action. (remember it's still a work in progress)

While I've been waiting for the patch panels from LMC, I've been busy. I welded in the cab corners, and the drop panel. Still have some finishing work to do.

Your nuts.

Further more, I am going to use this thread to "build viciously" threw you.

You sir are my hero...

On a side not, why aren't you using the yukon dash?

Re: "TANGERINE" (C20 to K10) (LWB to SWB) (CST/MOD) (5.3)

Thanks for the picts on the 8th wonder. That's a tricky spot as you need to seal up the cowl and still leave mounting locations for the cowl piece from the "new" body implant. As well as locate the wiper motor in a location that functions. I have an ideal for this.... but it's a bit complex.... I'll try to photoshop it into one of your photos.

OK, with the cab set back in location on the new firewall.... I think I would start by connecting the cowl support on the cab to the firewall permanently. This will preserve the mounting location for the cowl, and top portion of the fender. I would do this with a sheet or metal, set it in behind the lip on the cowl support and contour the bottom edge to match the new firewall. This is the orange piece in the photo. You'll have to build in fresh air ductwork on the passenger side at the same time. Making sure to reinforce the fender mounting locations on each side. This will seal this area from the engine bay so you don't get hot gasses into the cab.

Picture two. What I would do here to clean this up is remove the lightened areas. Leaving the mounting tabs for the cowl piece attached to the cab. THis will clean this area up, and allow much easier access for blending the two trucks together. The section between the two red lines I would bend down as a reinforcement flange much like the rest of that opening.

,,,,,You sir are funny as he11!! (vicariously)

Listen up, here's the deal, I get my ideas the same way all great inventors and artists do,,,,,,,,,I steal them from someone else!! Over the years I've spent a lot of time going to car shows, talking to builders, even watching Barret Jackson (thanks to DVR I can actually stand it!!). I've seen a Mercedes gullwing that was grafted onto a complete rolling chassis and floor/firewall of a late model Mercedes. There was also a 56 Chev p.u. that was similarly grafted onto a Corvette (if I remember correctly) and I think the "Cheemer" was built the same way.

I'm still getting a lot of inspiration from guy's on this site. If you want more "outside the box" builds check out Mcbassin's or Hart Rod's build threads. Based on your signature you should also check out Dieselwrenchers builds (that guy is fearless!!).

Thanks for the props,,I do appreciate them, as far as the dash goes, I could probably use the yukon dash with some modification (especially around defrost vent area) but it just doesn't match my style.

Hey bundeber, You must be a mind reader!!! It's no fair getting ahead of the build!!

P.S. The decision on the raised white letters on my tires (in or out) was sort of made for me,,,I found a different tire/wheel combo that I liked better. The tires don't have raised white letters, so problem solved.

Hey truck farmer, I checked them out and bookmarked them, I also liked 68tt,s suggestion (post 80) about truck and car shop. I'll probably try both places in the future. I'm hoping I don't need to buy too much more. I know I still need some lights and lenses,,,, and a new windshield and back window would be nice, and, and, and ,,,,,,,,,

I've had great luck with parts from the truck and car shop, for my truck & my '51 chevy wagon. Any hoo crazy build you've taken on can't wait to see the next installment of progress.

Enjoying the snow?

I think this is the first time I can remember that Seattle has more snow than we do in total for the season. You guys seem to be getting the brunt of this system.

Hey 68TT, Yeah we got snow! Only about 8-9 inches, but you drive 10 minutes in any direction and it's a lot thicker, another advantage of being 700 feet above sea level. How much did you get up there?

I finally got my A-pillar patches,,, but now I can't get the cab moved into the shop. Our forklift has smoothie hard rubber tires, it doesn't go anywhere in the snow. We're supposed to get rain tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to get the cab in Friday night so I can work on it over the weekend.

By the way I finally got a picture of 67c10rustbuket's 1959 Chevrolet Brookwood (it's pretty sweet!!), I hope he doesn't mind me posting it.

You guys got more snow than we have in Northern ILL. and it is really killin my truck budget and the wife isn't liking paying for my truck parts and Plow Insurance.

I like that 59 I never saw one in a 2dr wagon before pretty rare. My parents bought a new 59 wagon when I was a kid, real boats but cool now.

Man that 59 is so awesome, and it looks pretty rust free too boot! I've had problems with LMC before too. Now I get my parts through a local guy and no more issues. I lost it when I saw the LMC catalog in the trash can!

We only got about 4" so far but it is still snowing.

Sorry you can't get the truck in the shop. Hope the rain melts off enough the fork lift can get around.

I dont mind at all, share all you want, and you can even come down and put a newer chassis under it for me.

They are a little rare, the 59 2 door brookwood production was approx 20,000 about the same as the 59 vette and elcamino while there were hundreds of thousands of each other model sedan in 1959.

The wag would be super rust free if it weren't for someones wife's uncle shooting half the windows out 20-ish years ago so there is some interior floor rust. her grandpa made him (uncle) go to a junkyard and pull windows for all the ones he shot out on the farm and there is quite a few chevy farm trucks that he shot windows out of, but of course there were no 59 wag 2dr windows. the exterior body is rust free except the driver rear lower quarter.

cant wait to see that body permanently attached to the tahoe floor/chassis that thing is wicked cool wade! Is it going to be a stock suspension or are you going to lift it ? I wish we had some snow here so I could have some 4xfun

PS driving a forklift in the snow is fun

I think I'd be tempted to shoot a wife's uncle, if ya know what I mean??!!! Those rear windows are probably going to be pretty tough to find.

I can't wait to see this come together too!! I worked my butt off this weekend getting it a little closer!

So here is the latest,,,,,I went to install the "A" pillar patches and decided to think it through before I just started chopping and welding (what a concept!). Here's what I came up with,,,,,,,,

I built this gauge so that I could more precisely weld the patch on in the correct location. I felt that the most important thing was to have the fender mounting hole in the correct three dimensional location.

Once I had the gauge in place I finished cutting off the end of the "A" pillar.
