Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
oldman3, 48 GMC BURB, Thank you.
It was a good night. Th coil overs are mounted. First cut my tubes to fit the frame and welded them in. Then fit the tabs and used a piece of box tube as my welding fixture. I only welded the gusset part of the tabs that way I could put the coil over in place to check for clearance. They turned out great. The frame sets 1 1/2 inches higher without weight on it. Next is to make the lower coil over mount that will tie into the factory shock mount so it supports the lower part of the mount. Here are some pictures. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
oldman3, Thank you. I am very pleased with it.
48 GMC BURB, Thank you. I am glad you like it seeing how it is your sons. Your frame will be the same except I think I can lower the rear bridge section a little with the same size tire all the way around. 99 to Life, Yes, I have been busy with it. Sometime I will turn this into my day job I hope! 98layinframe, Thank you. When are you going to start on yours? You know when you do and you need any info just give me a shout. I will be glad to help. focusedontheprize, Thank you. Today I ordered some parts. I set of suicide door hinges and some latches. Also I am going to put a set of 56 car headlight brows on this one too. So I ordered 2 patch panels and the headlight bezels. The engine is coming up the weekend of April 13, so I am going back to some sheet metal after I prime the frame. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Hey X. I have a question. How are you compensating for the deflection your plate may have where the lower coil over mount is? I might be missing something but it looks like it is below the lowest fixed mounting point which means it becomes a lever. So as the suspension compresses the forceon the plate is also in torsion and could bend the bracket. Just what I'm seeing I might have missed something. Nice work I'm a big fan as I look at your threads religiously.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
oldman3, Yes I love when new parts come. It has been a while since I suicided a set of doors. The brows are a neat subtle change for the head lights.
69CST-V, Thank you. Yes, there is a bracket that I did not make yet that mounts to the factory shock mount. The lower coil over mount is then bolted at 3 places, the 2 four bar mounts and the old shock mount. Then then should not be any deflection. Also I am going to trim about an inch off the bottom of the plate just to clean up the length a little. Shannon

ken, I can hinge the bed floor up no problem. The floor will have to be raised a little anyway.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
98layinframe, Thats cool. At least you can collect parts while you are not working on it.
Today I made the lower coil over brackets support that mounts to the factory shock mount. Took a piece of 2" box tube and cut it to size and then welded a 5/8 nut to it. Then tacked it in place. I will make caps for the ends also. I will finish welding it when I pull everything apart to prime it. Next was to saw and drill the fuel and brake line mounts, they a 1"diameter slugs with a 1/4-28 hole for a button head bolt to hold the rubber covered clamps. Then I boxed out the frame mounted 4 bar brackets and ground them all up. It gave them more of a finished look. Then I coped some tubing for the lower part of the tranmission cross member and I had seen that the upper one that goes across the frame was going to hit the drive shaft. So I bent up a curved one. So now I can cut out that one now. I am going the order SST braided brake hoses so I can mount the tabs and spray primer on it soon. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Chevette, Thank you. I am still waiting to see your build thread back on here again. I am going through withdrawal!
48 GMC BURB, Thank you. I am glad you like it. I too sometimes do things one way and then add to it because I think it would be better another way. Yes I can not wait to have your son and you come set the motor in it. It was one of those weeks. Two of my kids had small surguries and the gas drier died. But the brown truck came for a visit. The 56 eye brows and headlight rims came and a bunch of brake things came. The rocky hinges and latches are on there way. So I have been running the brake lines. I ordered a new blue piont(snap on) flare kit so it should be here early in the week. I bent up everything that I could, and only have to flare 5 ends. The back still needs the t put in and attach it to the long line. The front is all bent up and both ends need flared to go into the propotioning valve. They need trimmed back a little so they look nice. The frame is all tore apart so I can finish welding and grind the under side. I have to weld a 3/4 inch flat bar around the bat wing mount to strenghten it up a little. It would be alright but I like to over due things. It is back on the saw horses. Thursday I took off work so I will sling the epoxy on then. Then put it back together and start on the headlight brows and the doors till the motor comes. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
oldman3, Thank you. I can not wait to get them flared, then that is off the list.
swizzlestick, Yep that is the same ones. They are 56 car headlight brow repair panels. You use your factory headlight buckets and you also need the chrome trim ring for the 56 car. You can check out that build for how I did it or if you need any pointers I will be glad to help. The cheapest I found was from Danchuk. Thank you Kabwe for the 56 car vender info. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
thanks for the info! I've watched and been impressed with all the builds in your signature. how did you get the brows pointed straight? did you just let the original headlight opening guide you?
