Re: Project "Grandpa gets a transplant"

Rear tires are 225/60/16
Front tires are 205/65/16

Tires are same hight, front is just a little narrower, was hoping to clear the inner fender but no luck.

Work was a little slow today so I was able to swap out the axle shafts and swap the bumpstops.

Here is pic from yesterday. These were the original wheels and tires that came on the rear, 29" tall and also had the bullet style bumpstops in the rear. This dropped it 2+ inches at the rear axle.

Here is today with the 27" tires and pancake style bumpstops. Front is about 1/8" or so off the tires, so in theory I could creep at this height.

Should have taken before and after measurements as it is hard to tell from pics, In person it is a noticable difference. Oh well lol

Re: Project "Grandpa gets a transplant"

More progress...

Bed had a steel plate in it....

Want to go back to wood and also have some sort of access door for the air ride stuff so it needs to come out.

Handy dandy gantry crane and plasma cutter makes easy work of the bulk of the floor

Still rough around the edges

Cut off wheels and pry bars oh my... I am glad that the previous owner wasnt that good of a welder

Now to put the bed on....

Voila....

Re: Project "Grandpa gets a transplant"

Made some more progress... hopefully will be on the road soon....

Brakes are the next to tackle then she should be drivable, other than cleaning up some wiring, adding exhaust and getting an alignment....

Re: Project "Grandpa gets a transplant"

Making more progress....

Exhaust is installed....

(tips are deburred unlike this pic)

Starting the bed, we were going to put original looking wood in, however the rear is so light.... no traction. Decided to put down a layer of playwood then diamond plate to add some weight to the rear while maintaining the shop/grandpa truck look.

Added hinges

Then plywood

Going up

Diamond plate and plywood cut to length

Cannot pick it up to easy at the moment, will have to get some actuators or something... ideas are welcome here lol

The spare carier was setup for 6 lug.... changed to 5 lug... hope my welding skills are up to par lol

Found a friend at the mailbox today that wanted to lend a hand...

Removed heater core etc...

Swapped the trailer lights out for the round original style ones...

Other things done but no pics...
Power steering added, new side mirrors installed, alignment done, sway bar added, fan relays added, brakes plumbed

Only a few things left to do on my list to make her what I consider drivable. Waiting on shock relocation brackets to come in. Basically once shocks are installed and I solve a small tranny leak she will be good to go.

Re: Project "Grandpa gets a transplant"

Well havent updated this much lately due to driving the piss out of it... Still havent figured out which way I want to go to lift the bed floor...

Here are some pics at some local shows...

At the Whistle Stop Cafe (restaurant from the movie Fried Green Tomatoes)

Train Depot from the movie

Have had it at a couple other shows... but same ole pics... I drive it around locally alot, it definately grabs attention and had a couple people wanting to take it off my hands. One of the local good ole boys says I should name it Gomer because once you pop the hood it's Surprise... Surprise... Surprise

Will put together a list of components if anyone is interested.
