Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
So much for changing the external seals/gaskets, sticking a cam in and dropping in the LQ4. My OCD would not allow me to install the engine without making sure everything is 100% right. Stripped it to the bare block.
Dropped it off at the engine shop on Saturday (RF Engines and Development in Concord, NC) Still not sure what all we will do. Still considering options that cover everything from a quick hone to a full stroker kit.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
My Boyd's Welding tank is waiting to be installed (once the engine/trans is back in and the front clip is back on.
My vintage air kit should arrive in the next week.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
See your SNS cam for sale. Haha. Keeping original plans is hard bro! I've also gone completely new direction with my motor. Details to come in a week or less. Hey, how did your cam bearings look? Could you photograph them for me?
Here was the front cam bearing on mine: Looks fine on top, https://flic.kr/p/Ra14V5 And here is the bottom of Same bearing. Notice babbit is gone, hello copper. SUPPOSEDLY this is totally normal and shouldn't concern me. Lol. I don't know. https://flic.kr/p/QDaSed

What are you doing to yours now? I've gone off the deep end on mine, full Callies stroker kit, all ARP fasteners throughout. I'm building the same bottom end the race shop uses on their 1,000 hp road course engines. The cam I initially spec'd (and am selling) was perfect for the stock displacement and bottom end but it too small for the stroker (and will give me way too high a dynamic compression for pump gas). My bores are cleaning up perfectly at .005" so it looks this this time it'll be a 403 ci. I wanted to go 416 but the shop said if something goes wrong in that motor, the block will be done. With over $1,100 just in machine work on the block alone, I want to make sure I at least have a chance to do a rebuild or two, change pistons if I boost it later, whatever....

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
With the engine at the shop things are a little stalled. Took advantage of some great weather and still got a little work done. Pulled the in-cab fuel tank out, removed the rest of the heater to prep for the vintage air and roughed in my fly by wire go-pedal. Then spent a couple hours scrubbing engine parts.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Big boxes of parts came in yesterday. Looks like I have some work I can do this weekend (install all the in-cab side of the Vintage Air setup).

This is going to be one tough ride, I like the direction you are going with this.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Got some work done on the vintage air install today. Got the dash cutting done and vents installed. Vintage Air neglects to mention the dash pad has got to come off to cut the center vent. So with the dash pad comes out the instrument cluster. Hard to see progress when I have to keep taking stuff apart. I also painted the firewall covers. Doesn't look like like much but took a good six hours.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Yeah, it should make driving it in the summer a lot more enjoyable. Should get a lot more miles on it (when it gets "finished").
Thanks Larry.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Dash cuts look good. I like the idea of painting the firewall cover pieces. I hadn't thought of doing that, but now that I see yours, I think I'll do the same when I get to that point.

It's kind of temporary anyway. I reckon when I do a full frame off (someday, someday), the firewall will get smoothed and done properly. Mine is a piece of Swiss cheese with all the factory holes that are no longer needed.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Thanks Rob. I finalized the DBW adapter bracket yesterday as well and put a quick coat of paint on it yesterday. Had to notch it for the taillight wiring plug but looks like it should work nicely.
Thanks Mike.

Looks great John. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing it all done. Do you plan on having it road worthy this year?

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Thanks. I would love to get it back on the road this year but the way the engine build keeps escalating, finances may make it difficult to finish in time. I'm paying as I'm going along and have rapidly funneled my designated radiator/steering/harness money into the engine.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Got my DBW accelerator pedal with the Hart_Rod supplied bracket mounted today. I'll have to find a good spot where I can mount the TAC module.
