Re: Avoid the Concrete
Thanks everyone!
69CST-V, I am sending a link to my dad of your build thread. I am liking your company trucks! Are you building a 69 with CTS-V parts?

Re: Avoid the Concrete
I got the front edge of the drip rail welded and ground down. I started on the corners and decided I need to do something to the A pillars as they stick out too far. After looking at it for a while, I think I am going to put the doors on and get them adjusted to where they need to be. To do that, I have to finish the firewall. Pictures of drip rail:
Apparently I need to work on my measuring skills because I did not get the firewall panels centered on the firewall when I welded them in. I measured a bunch of times, but I still managed to get them off center. So I cut out the panels and redid them. Its annoying, but will give me the opportunity to fix a couple things that I wasn't thrilled with anyways. Since the panels are off again, I decided that I would go ahead and put the second bracing bar under my dash in since it will be easier to get to. I also trimmed the floor boards to clear the fenders and started getting them ready to finish the sheet metal work on the outside of the kick panel.

Re: Avoid the Concrete
I got the new firewall welded on again. This time it is centered. I also did it out of thicker metal. It was too flexible the first time. Next up is to finish up the kick panel area and get that finished up. Then on to the center engine bump.
On to the pictures. I started by welding the two panels together: I also made a frame that I welded together and made sure it was flat. Then I tacked the new firewall to that so that it held the firewall panels nice and flat. Once the firewall was tacked to the frame, I put the frame on the cab and tack welded it in place. Once I got the panels welded in place, I cut the frame off and ground everything smooth.

Re: Avoid the Concrete
Thanks guys. Hoping to get the fab work done on the cab soon. I have some ceramic insulation that I need to spray on the inside before it gets too old.

Re: Avoid the Concrete
I have started to work on the engine cover. I put the cab back on the frame and measured how deep the engine bump needs to be. I then ran a piece of metal through the bead roller to give me the rounded edges that I wanted.
Then using the firewall template that I had made previously, I started bending it to shape. I made relief cuts to allow it to bend. I will spend some time with a hammer and dolly as I weld it in to get it smooth in the corners at the relief cuts. I also welded a couple of supports across the firewall to keep it straight as I welded the engine cover in. Next, I lined up the first piece and tack welded it in place. I did the same for the rest of the top portion.

Re: Avoid the Concrete
Why don't you just build your own cab from scratch? Oh wait you basically are. Awesome job.

Re: Avoid the Concrete
Low68 nice build you have going here. Love the color and the fab work you have done. Looking forward to more progress pics!
Even though it sucks you wrecked it in the beginning, it gives you a good excuse to rebuild it the way you want now!

Re: Avoid the Concrete
Thanks for all the compliments everyone. I am excited to get this thing done the way I have envisioned it. Might be a while, but it will be worth it I think. I am hoping to get the cab off tomorrow again and finish up the transmission cover and get the engine/transmission cover all welded and smoothed out.
