Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

Had some time yesterday to mount the gas/brake/clutch & e-brake pedals from the 97 S-10 to my 50 CAB. Not sure if what I did was the right way but looks like it works for me. I had to install my seat and check the feel of the pedal locations and feels good. I'm even going to adapt the S-10 E-brake pedal as well.

Cal Daddy, that is some great progress.
I'm not sure if you did the final burn in on the cab mounts, but I've noticed that as the weight increases on the front end (as the springs sink lower) the upper control arms change position fore and aft relative to the wheel well.

Have you set your your steering linkage yet? I'm trying to figure out a path around my headers.

No I haven't finish the mounts yet. they are only tacked in place. I haven't set my linkage yet.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

Well today I wanted to test fit the SBC350 and the NV3500 5-speed in the chassis. Im a little confused as to where to line it up. If I push the engine all the way back for 1" clearance between the Distributor and the firewall, the motor mounts are no where near the perch-mounts. Should I have this much clearance from the firewall??? I'm confused.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

My LM7 sits about 4" back from where the original 4.3L V6 did on the S10. I bought some mounts allowed them to bolt into the original mount holes (you can see on my thread). However, due to your distributor you may not be able to get the SBC to fit in that exact spot without dinging in the firewall.

So why would I need to go so far back? I hung all the sheet metal today and checked the distance between the water pump nose cone and the electric fan. I have about and 1"+ Is that all that is needed?

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

As long as your fan clears you should be ok. Just make sure you can get all your wires on the distributor, and that you have a little room for the motor to vibrate or load up under torque without hitting the firewall. The main reasons people want them back are 1) to clear the fan and 2) to shift as much weight to the rear as possible, since the trucks tend to be front heavy-unless there is a lot of cargo in the bed.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

Im wondering why the truck still looks high in the front, even with the 2" drop spindles and 20" rims. Is it just me??

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

Looking at Robert's description on the AD Engineering site, you still have a bit of weight to add-seat, grill, fluids bumper, doors, etc, maybe 2-300 lbs? I could not tell if you have the bed on, but even though most of its weight will be borne by the rear, it will lower the front as well. When I jump on the rear of my frame, the front fenders do come closer to the ground slightly. Now, does that all get you as low as you want? That is hard to say. I guess you'd have to estimate the weight and place it on the truck (maybe sacks of cement, or whatever dead weight you have sitting around).

Well I hope so. I would hate to get everything in and have to take it apart to get the sheet metal lower.

Looks like the fenders are sitting high, especially with the drop spindles on and the engine in. Have I told you lately that I love those wheels???

Is that cab for sale???

Today another fellow member Brad AKA"kustombrad" came over and gave me some great Ideas to help address the (Pre-Runner) look im having. Thanks again Brad! Seeing his truck in person was kinda like seeing a celeb lol. Plan is to pull out the front springs and set the front up at ride height and then I plan to adjust the front cab mount pads until the desired height is achieved.

Re: My 1950 Chevy "S-3100" Build (old+new)

Well today I pulled out the stock S10 front body mount pads, and boy did it drop the front end way down. Almost too low, considering I still need to pull out the front springs and set it up at ride height. But I'm going in the right direction.

Nice to hear you're kicking-and still have motivation for the truck.
You always have to wonder when you see a long absence.
