Re: High School Project Build II
Do you plan on using the current rear bumper or switching to a sport bumper ? I think I have a pair of gravel guards for a sport bumper and I also have the front and rear light lenses to send you in my possession .I still need to dig in my shop and see what else I have you may be able to use .

Re: High School Project Build II
We are thinking about just leaving it - cause it will mess up the patina top bed rail, and the guys are wanting to leave out the side marker light

Re: High School Project Build II
It's looking good. We have to cut and weld the drivers rear - then paint both rear sections and the very edge of the front - the white cracked and peeled, the blue didn't crack

Re: High School Project Build II
This week is not going to be to productive. The star quarterback in our high school passed away saturday night as a result of a car accident. He was not one of my students - but was greatly loved by all the student body and faculty. He was also on the basketball team and highly involved in one of the local churches. Please remember us in this hardship

Re: High School Project Build II
Looks good! I know of one the thread you referenced for doing this Farmtrucks. It was very informative.
Does anyone have a template and step by step showing where to cut, tip and weld for this process of turning a long bed into a short? It would be handy to have in one document or in a few posts. |

Re: High School Project Build II
It is very cool that you did the front of the bed like that I see so many cut the bed side ..if you do it again you can make a buck off the stock bed side and then clamp it in the shortened bed side and hammer it over the buck and you won't have to cut all the slots in it .. It was good thinking your teaching more than just your class...

On front measure back and mark 11" and 12". Cut off at 11" mark - tip over at 12" mark On rear put a reference mark 8" behind the front edge of side marker light. Tape you a line along that mark - at the bottom follow the tapering edge. Cut up to the top of bedside - cut along stake pocket, and cut across bedrail 1.5" in front of pocket. Use wood 2x4 with 2 nails spaced 8" apart to mark the bed side then mark bedrail up 8" and cut it. Then weld it up It sounds and works good on paper. It takes some time, cause we've been at it for a few weeks Here is pic of drivers side rear section to give you an idea
