Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Hah hah... that SW VA/NW TN/SE KY region can keep you wonder where yurat! I always thought of Bristol as the end of VA since that's what the interstate will have you thinking...and only VA to TN. I went down to Bills Bowties once, stayed at hotel in Bristol thinking I'd pop in on him in the morning. Heck, the rod took me back up into VA and he was another couple hours west, yet! Beautiful country. I guess out there is known as the Cumberland Gap region. He was closer to KY than TN.
I guess if you are headed across TN you're south of that area. But the hwy was US58. Oh wait, you're headed up to Mammoth Cave & Bowling Green now? Might work for you. Tell you what, how about you don't listen to my suggestions and just go any ole way you want...lol

Keep on highway 1 or 101. Lots of beauty along there About 8 years ago we rode our bicycles from Vancouver B.C. To Ensenada Mexico. Being a bit older now thank god we have an engine doing the work this time. There is a site kind of like ours"Crazyguyonabike" that posts up blogs about there trips If you get a chance, stop buy my hometown,Sonoma. It is a beautiful place to visit Keep your eyes open along the way as you can see there are plenty of these trucks around still Here is a pic of us at an overlook in the Smokies Posted via Mobile Device |

Checkthese out. I'm not sure if they are original or not. I've never seen a bumper guard or step bumper (or whatever they might be called) It looks like they have been on it for the life of the truck Anyone out there have any idea? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
If you stop at mammoth cave go into the town of Cave City. Highway 31 goes through the town and use to be a major highway for travel. There are several old motels on the north side of town that have been kept up very well. Also there is a TeePee motel there just like on route 66.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
If you are planning on hitting Mammoth Cave today, you might log on and buy your tickets in advance. On weekends in the summer they tend to sell out of a lot of the tours. Made that mistake the first time we tried to go when my Mom was out visiting from Oregon!

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Sub'd. Cool trip, you're near my old stomping grounds (Louisville, properly pronounced "Luhlvuhl").
Looks like you're mostly doing this already, but my advice is to stay off the interstates and check out America from the back roads. If you need anything near little Durango, Colorado, let me know. I've always wanted to do a bike tour down Hwy 1. Mostly tour around Colorado, on trails at that. Very familiar with Crazyguyonabike. Funny how interests intersect around here, it's a small world. Have fun out there!
