Hope to measure backspacing and order some wheels and tires.
Get this firewall finished and sand everything back and paint it.

I assume since I'm going to be running an auto might as well pull the clutch and weld up that hole.

Also ... are most guys use the same brake pedal/accelerator holes ...... doing a 5.3 swap ..... unsure of DWC or DBW as yet..... not sure if it matters?

Finally ..... cant remember what the large hole at pic/post #44 was ..... thing it was a bracket for the starter mechanism ..... anyone confirm ?

Got most of the holes I wanted filled.

Would like to have done a few more but don't know what I need yet. Hate to weld it then redrill it.

Bought and test fitted these. 235/75/R15 8" wide with -19 offset.





Wouldnt call them my favourite wheel/tire combo ...... but for $500 new all the way around ..... going to swing with them. Actuallhy like the whitewall ring.

Plan is to get the other 3 this week ........ and maybe source a steering shaft and get steering hooked in.
I'll have 4 days off so really want to get the sanding and painting of front end done over that time.

Then wiring or brakes.

Looks great. I like the skinny whitewall. I will be running black 5 spokes with skinny whites on my 59 when it is back on the road.

Haven't done much due to heat and other 'life' things. But need to get back on it.
Got the steering column bracket removed - and put the S10 one I pulled from a junkyard in place - but dont like it for fitment at all.

Then since IM dropping all this coin which I dont have ...... still toying around with the idea of the steering column. Reusing stock and slicing a few lines on end to flare out and place bearing, and reweld.... or just go ididit. If I can find a half decent sale I will likley go with a 32" universal tilt.

Only problem with that is getting the stock steering wheel which my wife loves to work with the turn signal cancel ........ not sure exactly all thats required here but did see a video on this somewhere.

Some questions

What are you guys using for steering wheel .......pic ?

What did you use for firewall holes you didnt fill to block off ? Have a few I didnt fill in case I needed for running electrical or other. Curious.

Need to cut and adjust hydroboost rod.

Question

When I see videos of people doing patch panels they single bead it all the way around.
If its not structural - can you just tack it in all corners and then use a fiberglass patch to seal , level and strengthen ?
tacking it the way around will take some time and also look messy so need to spend lot of time grinding back also ........

probably not - but curious.
Ill be adding a bondo fibreglass repair over the top to smooth out all the tack welds and level out anyway ?

tacked it all in and ground it down and checked underside and only see a couple pinholes Ill try and fix up.

Thats the step done. Just need to cut and measure the door hinge and do that and I *think* thats about all the body work I have to do.

That's back yard hack. No reputable professional restoration shop would do this.

The BEST way, keep filling the pinholes. Grind, sand, file, etc. Blast off any remaining silicon slag. Then epoxy. If there are any microscopic holes remaining, fill with a dab of epoxy. Then use a quality filler. The repair will be waterproof from the backside.

Engine and trans I picked up today ......LQ4/4L65e

Anyone got recommendations on who does a good rewire for LS harnesses

Will start teardown on trans soon for output shaft swap.

Did a mock fitup to see if trans tunnel was going to be a problem before I pull it and seperate the trans and rebuild/2wd convert it.

Not sure - what do you guys think.
