Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

Not telling what to do but ......pay the $600 and get your truck out of there and save the receipt. What if the insurance company drags their feet for a month only to offer you $2500
Storage will eat it up quick and if Barney has not sent you certified mail he can't charge storage...

Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

He says if I pay it off it will just mess them up even further. Thanks again, George.

Maybe so, but at least the question of who gets your truck will be definitely answered!

Go get it and worry about complications later.

If it were my truck I'd have bailed it out of there by now. Possession is 9/10ths. I think everybody is jerking you around... Barneys included

Hi georgieb51, I have been watching this thread with interest. I'm sorry to hear about your "total" loss. If it were me, I think I would just get the truck out of there ASAP and back into my hands, let the paperwork be "messed up" by $600 worth after paying the storage fees, and let the insurance company either pay me something for the loss, or not, later.

Thanks folks. I get the hint. I will have a talk with Barney on Monday.

I'm with everyone else get it the heck out of there.
Last people I would trust is an insurance co. and some guy I never met.
If you need help with the $600.00
I'll donate a few bucks to your cause . I hate to see a guy and his truck getting jerked around .

Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

I don't post on the board very much anymore, but I just read through this thread.

#1 I used to be an insurance appraiser

#2 I agree with getting the truck out of the tow yard and to Ryan's. Pay the towing & storage fees. The higher they get.....the insurance company will TRY to figure that into "the cost to repair".

#3 - threatening with a lawyer rare makes progress. Most insurance companies would rather deal with a lawyer because everyone drags their feet until the owner is desperate or gives up and takes a settlement.

****#4 your best bet is to get a hold of the IA Insurance Commission Dept. Insurance companies usually get things done if they hear from the commission. Because if you make a big enough deal of it, the insurance company will have to go to a hearing etc etc.

Thank-you Arkracing, Nice to hear from someone who actually worked in the field. If your advice is to get the truck out of there I will get the truck right out of there. Seems to be the general consensus from everyone else writing in. And I will find the Iowa Insurance Commission Department. (Is this an Iowa state organization or a private industry organization)? If it is online I will find it. I will get in touch with Ryan to see what we can line up for tomorrow. Enjoy Father's Day!--George

Thanks Ark, I took a look at that site. It appears to be involved with companies that do business in Iowa only. The insurance company that covers this cargo on this carrier/transporter is in Massachusetts. I will make some calls on Monday to see what I can find out.

It's being worked on. Getting things handled from across the country take a little time.

I just paid Barney off. $900 for storage and wrecking fees. Took some time to get it out of the wreck, plus 30+ days of storage. Could have been a lot worse. Barney kept it inside a building the whole time. I have been on the phone back and forth with Ryan all day. The truck is now all cleared for removal from Barney's as soon as Ryan is able to get there. He is a busy guy too with much better things to do! But I sure appreciate his help!

Now you are in control of yoir truck. You have the truck and the title and know where it is located.

Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

Thanks everyone! I am so grateful for all your support and I am especially grateful to Ryan for picking up my truck and taking it to his place. Ryan said he would be posting a photo of my truck on his trailer tomorrow. Oddly enough I am not totally out of the woods yet. I tried to arrange for transport with my broker but she said she cannot arrange to have it go past the Iowa state line. She needs to hear from the insurance company that they are "done with the truck". So I have been on the phone talking to the insurance company and they said they would get back to me within 10 minutes after checking first with the adjuster. Apparently the adjuster had to arrange for someone to appraise my truck. At least the truck is in my possession. Maybe I will have to find an independent trucker rather than go through a broker. Good thing I am patient. .

George, no problem at all. Maybe a different broker needs to be called and do not mention the entire wreck situation. Maybe even message Fine69 as he used to transport vehicles across country, and might still. The truck will be locked up tomorrow in the shop and it won't go anywhere until you say so. Don't be in any kind of a rush as it isn't hurting anything by being here. And if the truck needs to be relocated to another place where the address is only known by you and I, that can happen too. That seems weird that the broker is siding with the insurance company who is dragging their feet and not trying to help you, their customer.

Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

The truck is out of the towing company's building. It needs some trans fluid, because it won't drive, and probably a tune up as it is running very rough. The plugs could be fouled from laying on it's side for 2 days. It makes me wonder if the tow guys pulled the plugs before trying to start it up? I checked and it has clean oil in the engine. It could be old oil though because by the smell of the gas that has been in it, the truck hasn't seen much run time for a long time. (Small that varnished gas ) I didn't have time to unload it and get it inside the shop, but I will in the morning.
