Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

So whats been happening C10 wise?

Well not a lot I guess. Been working away the last week. The fuel lines are now all clipped in as far as the engine bay (though Ive still to slip them around done of the pumps). Only got the regulators to fit and I can finish the "plumbing" but Ive only just ordered the fittings for that (and HELL they were expensive!).

Decided that where I can I'll finish areas especially where it means I can get some of the parts Ive got stored onto the truck and clear space in the garage. So the parking lights or rather what are now indicators over here got installed and wired last week. Its still sort of funny when things go on for the final time!

Also started on the exhaust because Im still waiting for a separate delivery from Summit which includes wrap for the headers so I can finish them yet.

Decided to go with 3" pipes but this may be too big and too loud, but it will let me run the engine and if necessary I will come up with an alternative.

One major thing Ive still to figure out is what to do about a parking brake. The Wilwood disc conversion comes with shoes for a parking brake but I have no levers whatsoever. Has anyone fitted a electronic park brake to a 62?

(Wont let me upload pictures again or rather it only let me upload the first two). I'll do the others later)

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Martin/Ian, Im going to content myself with the fact that Hosefittings only had 2 of the items I needed because those two items between them were about £10 cheaper and if I was to multiply that up Id probably have saved Oh about £80!

Im sure they can get anything I need and if that's the case I DONT WANT TO KNOW!

And Speedflow were at least the same cheaper than Merlin who must be making a fortune.

So I know where to go next time!

PS - Some Scotsman I am!

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Well after much faffing about and head scratching and tweaking of this or that the 454 fired up. I'll not say it burst into life, more like spluttered for a few seconds and died but it did run on its own for that time.

Still need to tweak the card and the valves but at least Im there abouts.

Got to take the wife away for the weekend and then next week I must catch up on some much needed jobs (I'll be glad to go back to work) so it will be a few days before I get back to it.

That tunnel is getting closer!

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Ive given up trying to load any videos so for now its pictures only.

So, over the weekend I hand the drivers door and front fender and started to blend them together. Fortunately they needed considerably less work than the passenger side did and I got them done over the 2 days, to the point I can take them off and finish them in the garage over the winter months.

So the plans over the coming cold months will be to get the door and fender filled and painted and hopefully hung permanently. Then all the bed panels need prepping and painting before fitting. Weather permitting all the electrics need doing and the interior outfitted. I need to build a quieter exhaust. Id like to stick with 3" pipes but Im struggling to find a way through all the suspension to the back. The front upper and lower control arms need to come off for repainting. All the powder coating is coming off the parts I bought from POL (or should that be POS) so that needs redoing.

When I say it like that there doesn't seem that much left to do!

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

So Ive been a bit slow latterly updating this but work has been progressing. Amongst other things I ended up re running the temporary exhaust pipes. The plan is I will re do them with a X member in the middle and likely 2 mufflers on each branch.

Also got the passenger vent window frame cleaned up and painted. Still the drivers to do

Name: 20181021_163450.jpg
Views: 289
Size: 36.6 KB

And yesterday I finally completed all the wiring on the instrument panel, well nearly all. The water temp gauge is in the engine bay right now

Ive also just about got the drivers door ready for painting. A days work should see it done but its been nice, if cold and eventually dark, outside of late so while I can I'll work on the cab etc. I'll keep painting for inside when it gets really cold.

I have the choke where the throttle cable should be but that is the only place it fitted and Im not really sure what the throttle cable is for, a hand operated throttle?

Just found this picture of the original dash.

Name: 20160430_151034.jpg

There was an start push, cigarette lighter, toggle switch for something and a pull switch which Im not sure what it was for but Id guess lights.

Ive replaced that entire section now anyway and it doesn't need to be original, wont be original for that matter but at least I know now what it should have.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

A question guy's, who do you all use for parts?

To date Ive used both LMC and Classic Parts but frankly Ive found their service and quality to be poor.

Are there any other suppliers you would recommend? I don't have a great deal to buy now but what I do still need Id like to only buy once and not have to return it.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

It didn't take as long as the passenger door to prepare but that's the drivers ready for some colour. Hopefully this weekend will at least see the inside in Old English while and maybe some clear.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Cheers gents. My goal is to have it on the road this time next year. That may be a tall order but as long as nothing else happens like happened this time last year its doable I think.

Tonight saw the inside of the doors in what I hoped would be the last coat of primer but I noticed a couple of flaws so it will need a little more work on Saturday before painting.
