Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Hey guys !!
As most of you know I am trying to make something really special, or at least special to me....or like me....whatever. I have also recently mentioned my buddy Jay has been cooking up something over the top, well I picked them up yesterday.... So ask yourself, have you ever seen a Stepside 1966 Apache Custom SS ?? Well, now you have (well as soon as I mount these bad boys) Here I have one of them done with paint. The goal is to make them look as if they came from the factory, so I painted in the [custom] and the (SS) like the old Pontiac Customs, and the Camaro SS. This is the concept art I gave to Jay a few weeks ago, from which he produced the above. His skills hinge on art in my opinion and his attention to detail just makes dealing with him a true joy. Talk about a professional hobby !! I was pretty heavily medicated when I drew the orginal draft, but Jay talked me into going with the Camaro SS style S's pretty easily when he showed me how it would look. I never did like the capital A used on the old Apache emblems, so I stylized this one from the Star Trek shirt emblem worn my Captain Kirk on the Enterprise. Yes, I am that much of a nerd-geek for Star Trek.... The plan is to mount these on the 1/4 cowls ahead of the rear view mirrors. Sooooooo what do you think? Personally I am amazed, his work continually stuns me !!

The emblems look awesome! Jay is a talented dude. It's another thing that'll set you apart from the crowd. I'm interested to see them once mounted.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Those emblems are absolutely amazing! They look like one of the over the top styling details for the clay mock ups, that were so beautiful or expensive they only appeared on the prototypes and never made it into regular production! Kudos!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Those are bada$$!!!!
I did a similar mod on my Caprice but not to the level of craftsmanship. I cut the ss out of the Caprice Classic emblem that was on the back sail panel and made a Caprice SS which never existed in 79' and glued them on the front fenders. Bret

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
That is COOL!!
I love stuff like that. That emblem looks factory, and it's gonna throw a lot of people. Putting them on the cowl panels is the perfect spot, too. Nice design, McMurf!!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Very cool....I like the out of the box thinking and the emblems came out great. I agree with Jay...the Chevelle/Camaro style SS looks better

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
I'm curious, do you know how your buddy made these? Were they cut with a laser or a water jet, 3D prototyping printer, or old school mill and machine work? Custom built factory appearing emblems is just not something I've ever seen before.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Gentlemen, I have asked Jay to log in (he is a member of this site) and answer your questions here.
All I can tell you is that he made these in his garage....and what he did to his machine that mills these is pure genius in my honest opinion. Trust me, it is totally beyond my ability to understand.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
First I would like to thank McMurphy for allowing me to hijack his thread for a little while.
Second, thank you all for your positive comments and interest in my work. Now to answer some of your questions… I have a 3 axis (soon to be 5 axis) CNC milling machine that I converted from a manual machine. I also designed a high rpm auxiliary spindle that is mounted to the side for the fine detail work. I do all of my own cad/3d modeling for the things that I produce. I mostly work in aluminum but I can do just about any material. I was born a Chevy guy and my father still is, but I converted in high school because of my first truck... an 83 F-100 (I know it is sinful saying that here) but I think all truck guys are alike in some way regardless of brand. My semi-restoration can be seen here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/382289...50-regular-cab If you are interested in creating an emblem of your own or just have question my contact info is as follows; Email-Info@precisioncncworks.com Facebook page-https://www.facebook.com/#!/PrecisionCNCWorks Or a simple PM will work too. Thank you all, Jay |

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Thanks for the feedback/answers and providing your contact info. My son is a machinist and has created many of the parts on my truck, but those emblems are in a league of their own!
