Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Man, some of us are getting old. I was looking at those Chevy dump trucks and thinking mine is too new to show. Then I realized the title to this truck is 29 years old. The reason I say title, it is in it's third incarnation since I bought it. The only thing left of the original 91 Kodiak I bought is the left fuel tank and the frame rails. 3126 Caterpillar with a 9 speed.

IMO, they all seem to be overloaded. I bet they weren't to concerned about top legal speeds.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Overloaded and oversized. No "wide load" banners or proper escort vehicles. Harvesting is a big part of that economy so I'm sure the Po Po look the other way. And all the locals know how to act when they see one coming. That's an old practice now that combines got so much bigger. Around here with smaller tracts, the combines get driven farm to farm, usually with a pickup leading with 4-ways on, getting people to pull over when needed.

This whole show truck pictures thing is getting old. Real old (with a touch of new)

No one had to look the other way, The Golden Road was a private, mostly dirt road from Millinocket to Canada for logging. Trucks did what they wanted and trucks always had the right of way, Private vehicles had to pay a toll. You were required to get out of their way. It's still there but now with the decline of logging, it's open to the public.

I really like any GM tandem dump. And they are all now bygone models. What you have is the last of them, and 29 years old ain't so new. That's a late great Chevy!

I did know that about the Golden Road. I have spent time in that area, many years ago. My post was referring to the medium duty flatbed combine haulers that other members had commented were overweight. I really have enjoyed looking at those special logging trucks you've shown.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

I never knew those Diamond Ts had fiberglass cabs. That Diamond T wrecker hoisting the two 1 tons is just like the tractor my buddy's dad had to pull the lowboy for his loader. I remember we would hop up and bleed the air down in the evenings.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

I love the part of the ad that says "If damage should occur, it can be repaired quickly, and easily, and at very low cost.".
Every Corvette owner in the world wishes that were true.

After some looking about I believe this may be the Lindbergh locomotive from the Pennsylvania Railroad. Weighing in at a svelte 243, 600 lbs.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Here is an old one I don't recognize.
Plus a second photo of what looks to be the same kind of truck. Looks like it says Bigge on the front, which is cool as they are still in business today. We do work with them from time to time. They seem to specialize in heavy lift work.
