metabo. the only grinder you will need and the last you will buy. soft start (how many times has a grinder jumped out of your hand when you start it?) and microprocessor controlled load torque, wrenchless disc change too just turn it off and as it is spinning down push the shaft lock. I bought a 6" model so I could run 4.5" to 6" discs, because the cost of 4.5 flap discs is nice compared to 6", but the extreme usefulness of a 6" thin cut off blade is great too.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
My 5 minutes today was cutting and riveting a piece of sheet metal for behind my MC. It might be overkill, but I've seen some guys do something similar to help brace it. I riveted it in case I take it off, I've already learned that some of my ideas arn't great or I think of something different. Hopefully this is something ill keep with, it also had the added benefit of covering the old holes from where i moved the MC over.
Tight fit but it's perfect under dash. Now I need to brace it to the dash. I think I'll make some arms to go where steering column holes are. There's just enough room to slip the factory brace on top too. Like I said it might be overkill. Any suggestions?

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Seeing your brake pedal support reminded me.....of how old man stupid I am.
Back a week ago I came across the stock one for my truck, while looking for the one for the cowl vent. I brought them to the truck to check fit and to cut them because of the sectioned cab. I put the cowl vent one in and it set right in place, what the hell? Well, I thought being I sectioned this cab over 20 years ago I just figured I drilled new holes in the cowl. Ok, so then I went to put the steering column one in, yep, it was too long. So I cut it in half then stuck it in and it fit in two pieces where I couldn't put it in one, what the hell? I pulled it back out tack welded it back together and stuck it back in. Then pulled it out and fully welded it. I thought I had re-drilled those holes too, that's why it was fitting, ok.... Then that night in the shower with it going over and over in my head it hit me, OMG I am a friggin moron, the top of the cowl came down WITH the dash so there was no change needed for these two parts! WHAT AN IDIOT! I can't blame it on being old, I think I have always been this stupid. Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
It's nice to know it's not just me moving and redrilling and then readjusting... and now I have to tack some "arms" in, then pull it out and weld it and paint all nice and then maybe finally I can put it in and never remove it ever again. Fingers crossed.

Installed some seal around my for the time being headliner to keep from cutting myself anymore than I already have. Followed by the neighbor coming over and asking for my assistance installing his gear vendors into him 69 challenger and about an hour of chit chat.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
OMG My National Detroit 900 works once again! Guys, this tool has been broken for a few years now. I don't do bondo work any more at the shop, but when I was I had two of these, that is how important they are, they are a MUST HAVE tool for this work. I got a new part for mine, oiled it up and it works again! I feel like Eric Clapton picking up his Strait after years of not touching it. I can't wait to get cutting some bondo, this tool is like an 8" block, I can't wait to get back up to speed with it, I can cut a panel to needing only a fine tune with a block using this tool. OMG I can't believe how good this tool is, I have been using my DA and 6" orbitals for removing paint and what not and they work like rubbing a friggin newspaper on it compared to this thing! I had forgotten what a BADARS tool this is! I was just going to get it going and head into the house to crash on the couch as I came home beat today. I tested it a bit on the top of the cowl and I was HOOKED. I stripped the dash in minutes, wham bam done deal. WHOOO HOOOOO!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I cleaned and painted my defroster ducts. Anyone know which one is left and which is right?
Got the windshield center strip installed. It really fought me; took all afternoon to install four screws.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Wired up the Vintage Air and tested operation of fan and door motions, tested heater valve operations. All good. Ran hoses and fI'll ed to check for leaks. One of my bulk head fitting is leaking as a solder point and now I am waiting my replacement parts.
Removed old starter and installed mini starter to clear exhaust. Will it ever end!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I got my replacement 17 inch fan from speedway today. I was stoked at how quick it got here until I opened it and its the wrong fan. I ordered a clutch style fan and got a solid mount fant. so now I have two brand new fans to return.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Went to the Fredericksburg Texas swap meet. Met a local guy who has parts on a truck he has at home I need and we made plans to meet up next time.
Lots of small towns in the area, stopped a antique store and scored this for 40 bucks. First I've seen that wasnt cracked or missing the wheel or gears. Set it up in my workroom inside. Inside all I have are hand tools.

More sand blasting, more roloc wheeling. My compressor is on it's last leg, this took me a LONG time.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
okay after measuring and being annoyed ive decided to keep the 18 inch clutch fan and return the 17 inch solid mount. when I measured I found my fan isn't in the middle of my radiator. Is there a way to lower where the radiator sits in the core support? seems like that would be a pretty simple way to make all of this work better. im also willing to chop up my new shroud to make it do what I want. oh its on!
