Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Take the plug with you so you get the right size. Any auto parts store should have one.
I know Napa does. |

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
you can try replacing the chain but I think they are gears in there.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I usually pull the engine with the intake and exhaust off. I use one of the rear intake studs on the left rear and there is a pad on the right front with two bolt holes.
The heads usually had two short locating pins, one on each end, two studs, one in the third hole in from each end and the rest were just bolts. I have pulled the pins and installed studs in every hole. Eight studs in all, instead of just the original two. It makes it a lot easier to replace the gasket, intake and exhaust at the same time.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
If you do decide to R&R the timing gears go with metal. Plastic gears could suck, even on a 230.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Hey 68 IRON-what carb is that you have? I have the same one, but I don't think it's stock.
At least, it's different from every other 1bbl I have laying around here.

I'll check it out and see if I can get a number off it. The truck came with maintenance records back to the original sale.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
My 292, don't know if I should put this in my Jimmy or rebuild the 250 it came with.
The 250 might get a little weak driving all my accessories

My carb has those same markings, but I haven't taken it off yet to see if there are others somewhere else. I think I'm running a tad rich so I'd like to find out about tuning it. I only see 1 screw to mess with though, except for the idle adjust, so how tough could it be? These seem to sit up a little higher than the stock carbs, and the throttle linkage geometry seems a little off, on mine anyway. Do you notice that too?
