You are welcome, Yeah also I am young and inexperienced. My father is the one who can build extremely custom vehicles I am still learning. Also I just put down less then 2500 down for a new engine

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Low87 - Here is the pic you requested, I hope it's what your looking for. sorry it took so long.

SevenSeries - Yeah I have had to learn from everyone on this board on how to do things myself and save some $$$.

1987GMCSierra - Thanks for the compliments Boss; yep the project snowballed; as soon as I get all the suspension & drivetrain back together, pending saving some pennies then it will be downhill after that.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

1986swb - Sorry it took me so long to respond; Actually I do have a 4" drop, my hangers are 2" and my shackles can be either 3" or 4" depending on which hole in the shackle I use. I had my mechanic some years back install mine and so when i started tearing down my truck and putting it back together I just put everything back like it was. However he could drilled some holes in the frame to make it work but I don't think he did.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Twoodson. No worries on the reply. So you do have a 4" total drop in your rear and you can still use the regular set up to install the Hellwig sway bar. This installation issue bothers me again. I called Summit Racing and Hellwig this morning and neither were of any help. They both said "no problem." This is such a simple installation which is why this is bothering me so much.

In any case, I'm redrilling holes in the frame for the angle brackets so that they are straight and perpendicular to the ground. Additionally, I am using shorter end link bolts and spacers as well. I'll post some pics when I'm done later this week.

You cannot imagine how frustrating this is. The only thing more frustrating is awaiting for my bench seat to come back from the upholstery shop.

Ok. I'm done venting. Thanks for your feedback. Breathe .... Serenity Now ....

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

SatisTraction: Thanks for the compliments, it's been a slow go with the shortage of $$$, but we know how that goes and plus working outside in 100+ degrees is not good but hopefully things are tapering off and I can order some bushings next week and get the front suspension bolted back together..

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Well Dennis if you insist; the build has taken a slight turn. Instead of investing in heads, 700r4 rebuild, & tune on the TBI; I have been talked into, initiated into the LS swap club. Thanks goes to Jonboy, Jmuck, Menace "to society"..lol I have decided the 5.3 will be cheaper. Jonboy located me a 5.3 from an '04 Avalanche w/59K complete with everything including tranny. It was a helluva deal. I thank this board and everybody here for all the good information for some us do-it-yourselfers. I was really scared since it was drive by wire but all the brothas mentioned above assured me there was nothing to fear and I will be happy especially with the the peformance gained and the $$$ saved. Pics will come as soon as I can.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Well everybody the LS bug bit the hell out me and I will now be joining the LS Swap club. Thanks to jonboy, jmuck, menace, & others here on this site. As you recall my previous details on the TBI engine. I would come out a lot cheaper and be a lot happier with the 5.3. So here are a few pics, not much but I will get more as progress comes. Special thanks to jonboy for getting this deal done. This is a 5.3 complete with pedal, accessories, tranny, wiring, etc. It is a drive by wire throttle body and it is from a 2004 Avalanche with 59,000 miles on the drive train. I know these are teasers but it's the best i could do for now. The manifold cover is on the way as well. Enjoy!!!!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Twoodson,

If I can be of any assistance, please let me know, I am in South FTW, Mansfield area. I did the LSx in my 65 last year and found every possible way to screw it up but somehow managed to get it finished and working fantastic ( board sure helped alot!)...still wondering how that all happened.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Not much: Quick update guys I finally got the wiring harness removed so I decided to post a pic. I guess now I will spend some time tonight and tomorrow trying to find out who is the best to use to redo the harness and re-program the pcm. Just thought i would share. It is about to rockin' & rollin' now.
