Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
A lot of the kit stuff out there is very generic and often doesn't work for every application. You can get any length tubular rivet from these guys.

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
The frame is 0.110, the seal is 0.180 & the rivets I got from T & C shop are 0.200. So to even make it through the rubber they are 0.090 short. Thanks again Dean I bought a box of 100 (smallest order) for less than $8.00.

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
You are welcome. Some of what should be simple projects can turn out to be not so simple, especially if a lot of time has lapsed between tear down and rebuild. I picked up a spare vent window early in the process just to have a good sample of how it was supposed to look. That helped me a lot too. The rivet kits that are for sale for these trucks usually come up short on proper lengths, number of rivets and even the swaging tools. I ended up buying all that on line from one of the rivet manufacturers. The dies that they sell are a lot better and make the driven head roll over properly instead of just flattening and cracking. Take your time, experiment on some scraps of the same thickness and it will all come together.

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
As far as I can tell, I only need the actual vent glass frame. The post that the vent handle attaches to is gone. Is there a place to just buy the frame only?
Thanks, SKIP64 |

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
Is there anyway to re-host the pics for this write up? Also, has anybody investigated having the vent window not open, making it a solid non-operable piece of glass that utilizes a better seal and alleviates the issues with the seals not filling the gap between the vent window and door edge?

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
Trying to mount the vent glass only, without disassembling the frame. The glass is simply missing.
I guess there‘s no need to take it apart, or am I wrong? I‘m struggling mounting the glass though... Is the bottom of the glass normally sort of wavy like the one I have (see below)? Or is it just poor quality? |

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild
All this glass is just flat panel glass. Sounds like you don't have a pattern, but your glass person can pop out the other side and use that for a pattern. He would then re-install both glass with new glass tape and off you go. The idea of this post was to show how to properly rebuild the whole wing window but if everything is in good shape just put in a new piece of glass, otherwise take it apart and replace or repair all shoddy components.
