Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
Hey mike, what measurement did you go with from cub mount to shock hole? Did you ever get a answer? I did my sub at 28"3/8....... Looks like you are ready to weld........

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
I used the same measurement of 28 3/8" from the rear of the shock hole. 29 3/8" from the front of the shock hole.

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
Decided to come home alittle early today to do some welding, and wouldn't you know it, it starts to snow. I just moved everything inside and was able to weld up the c-notch. Just need to do a couple more measurements and will weld the c-notch to the frame.

Looking good FM. Look at the snow on the brighter side .... you won't have to shovel the snow off your ouside concrete shop "floor" (LOL).
Let's get those installed ..... Ratty 46 |

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
One of my kids lived there for a couple of years and was amazed at how a light dusting as we call it would stop everything. She was used to waking up with a couple of inches, brushing it off he car and driving 25 miles to school. They don't close the schools up here unless we get 6" or so in one drop or a severe thaw freeze that ices up the roads real bad. 60% of the vehicles in the state are some form of 4wd or awd to deal with it. We are considering retiring to North NM or AZ.

Finally got all the c-notch all welded up. I will be attaching it to the inside of each side of the frame probably tommorrow.

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
Hey Mike! Its looking good. I cant wait to see your c notch all done. Hey, didn't you make your own air bag brackets/buckets? I seem to remember that. Do you have pics or specs? I dont want to spend $110 bucks on those if I can just go grab some pipe and some plate and fab them up. Mostly just need to know the diameter of the round plate on top and the diameter and depth of the round stock that you welded to it. Also what you're doing on the bottom(lower a-arm). Thanks, Nik

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
Nikwho look under my Project 47 GMC post #20 and you will see the brackets I made. I got precut lower brackets with the mounting holes and vavle holes already precut for $6 a piece. I got some 5" by 3/16" round tube to make the sides, then drilled a hole threw the center and welded a nut to the backside of it. Used some all thread and there you go. Built all 4 for about $40.

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
I worked on the 59 today and got some of the boring stuff done. Moved and drilled the rear body mounts. Have not figured out if I should weld a nut to the backside or if I should do something similiar to how Kawbe fastened his seats to the floorboards. Also, found the center line of the rear c-notch and I got everything close to where it is going to go. Posted a picture of how I am going to attach the gussets to the frame. There will be one on the top and bottom. I was thinking of welding a piece of 2X6 piece of tubing on the inside of the rear frame where I will be welding the new narrowed frame will go. After looking at Grimms build I will use some 1/4", 2"X4" tubing sideways and weld it to the inside of the frame. Then I will still box it in with 3/16" plate. Finally weld the new frame to the boxing plate. NEED SOME FEEDBACK!

Re: Project 59 Apache "1st Build"
Thank you RAD! Do you have a build thread? If not you should start one. Would really like to see it.
Thank you BC Toy Chest! How is your build going? Haven't seen you post anything in awhile. Look forward to some new posts.
