Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Well its a good thing I sent back all those sbc parts to Jegs. This weekend I picked up a low mile 454 bored .030 over. I got it for $880.00 Can't wait to clean it up and get it painted and in the frame.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
I got some 68-71 BBC frame mounts off of ebay so I sand blasted them and modified them so that I can use my SBC motor mounts. I cut two plugs out of my old rear shock mounts I cut off. They are 1/4" steel and was the same thickness as the stands. Now I can use sbc mounts and not have to worry about expensive bbc ones.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thankyou I'm hoping I can get the big block cleaned up and painted and in my frame in the next couple of weeks. Then I can put my sbc up for sale. I'm excited I can't wait to fire it.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thankyou I have been wanting a big block and the opportunity presented itself, so I didn't even hesitate. It is running about 10:1 compression with .250 dome pistons and peanut port heads. I know they are not the best heads but should be a torque monster. The cam specs are unknown as the guy couldn't remember what size it was, all he could say was big. He did however give me a brand new Comp Cams Magnum 280H to go with it incase the cam was a little to big for me.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
I Cleaned up and painted my Big Block yesterday. Next I will mount up my carb, distributor, spark plugs wires, starter, flexplate and water pump. Then I'll get this beast started.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thanks Al, it's been a bit of a struggle at times but I keep plugging away at it. I'm hoping to have it done in the next year or so. I plan on bagging this truck eventually but probably won't be until after the truck is finished and the funds allow me to do it.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Started bolting on some eye candy on my 454. It is looking really good, I sure did make the right choice switching to the big block. I still have to make up my spark plug wires but have to wait until I get some new boots. I ordered the wrong boots, the 90 degree boots sit right on the headers so I need to get some multi angle boots. Anyways enjoy the pics.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thank you, I love big blocks too, I had to have another one. I couldn't just settle with the small block. I have loved those valve covers from the first time I saw them and finally had the chance to get them. They are the Summit brand knockoffs but you can't tell the difference from the GM. They look great.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
The only thing I can notice is the casting looks to be a little smoother on yours, these valve covers are awesome looking though. Wish I had your motor in my truck lol. Maybe one day

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
