Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

That's how my truck was just one leaf on each side, but it had bags over the axle, which almost rides as bad. Dude we should work out some kind of trade or something for that bed floor.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Well pm me your # and sometime we can work something out.

It's really not that hard, I mean I'm not near done, but like for the front, all you need to get is a plate for each side, bags, and fittings.
The back is a little harder, but you can still buy a kit with minimal welding, for pretty cheap, brackets and fittings. If you just want to be pretty low and not necessarily lay frame, you can get it done for under 500. Thats probably without tank, valves, and compressor and switches,(like running off a outside air source) but I found a set of valves, tank, compressor, and switches on eBay for like low 200$.

But laying frame is where you have to get into a lot mor money, or do a lot more of your own fab work. And sometimes both.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Did lots of welding today after school. I'm getting all the rear arms finish welded, I would like to be pretty much done with this homemade wishbone four link by the end of the weekend.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

On Saturday I met CuRtdogG, he was pretty cool and he hooked me up with a deal on his old bed. I really just needed it for the bedfloor and the inner fenders so I can do my raised bed floor.

So I spent the first half of my day working on removing the bedsides and stuff.

There had to be like 50+ bolts plus 4 very hefty spot welds. Lol
Then I spent like an hour with the body hammers getting out every possible dent. Even though it doesn't look like it because it's like 5 different colors, It's now one of the straightest looking old used bed floors I've seen in a while. Haha

Then I spent the rest of my day welding up all the ends on my wishbone, all I have left is to add a couple gussets/ braces, and final weld in my axle tabs.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Thanks man. I got a little bit done yesterday.

I cut some of my old bed out. Still not exactly sure how I'm going to go about my raised bed. I've seen lots of different ways, but I still dont know yet.
Any input would be appreciated.

Then I got some fittings for a temporary rear end air.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Question.. what are you going to do with the brackets hangin off the frame for your E-brake cable? what did you/what are you going to do with the hard brake line on the pasenger side that runs to the rear ? Im just noticing these things as im going through my build. Maybe you have seen or talked to someone about this also. lemme know man! lookin good BTW!

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

As for the Ebrake cables, I think they are long enough to just keep the way they are and the brackets for them don't hang below the frame so there's no issues with those either.

The hard brake line, I'm going to have to replace the portion attached to the frame, because I accidentally cut it when grinding, but there's the portion that is rubber that connects it from the frame to the axles hard line, from what I've read I believe it's too short to allow much clearance, but can possibly be traded out for a 4x4s because theirs are supposedly longer.
Did I understand your question correctly?

Thumbs up Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

yessir, you understood me. thanks. are you laying it out? or are you not trying to make it "Lay frame"? thats where my problem is. Im setting it all the way down. i got a 10" notch for mine. Im sure that cable bracket on the drivers side will hit on mine. what are you doing for a fuel tank? lemme know how you finish up that brake line setup on the passenger side! thanks for the quick reply. time to get back to grinding!

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the brake bracket is at a place where the frame is not at its lowest. But if that becomes a problem, I'll probably just try to relocate it to run on the outside/inside of frame rail.
I plan to get some drop spindles, and by that point I'll be really close to laying pinch weld, probably less than 1 or 2 inches. I don't remember exactly how far the pinch is in relation to the frame. No idea on the gas tank yet.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

yea i was looking at the way my setup is gonna be and i wouldnt be able to move that bracket cause of where my 4 link bars are going to be located. guess ill worry about it when i get there.
Same for the tank. your raising your bed so you have more options than i would. I wanna put the tank in the rear between the rails, but the tanks ive been looking at look like they hang to low. may just do a fuel cell. Im gettin ideas from all over! hahaa

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Welp this weekend I pretty much got the rear buttoned up. I just have to make a trip to the hardware store and buy myself some good nuts and bolts to replace the once I used for mock up. Plus I need to add my shocks.

I temporarily put the bed on today basically just to help motivate me.
And to remind me that my truck is still a truck. Lol

Then the bed came back off again To make everything easier.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

No big updates really. I've been really busy past couple of weeks and it's just going to get busier. The little time I have had to work on my truck, I just sit there staring at it and scratching my head trying to figure out what to do. Lol

But I did order some belltech drop spindles on Friday. I think they're part no. 3200. They should ship out of Cali on Tuesday and be in little ol Oklahoma by Thursday.

That's all for now I guess.....

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

I got the 3 inch drop spindles. But I don't even know if I can drop the full 3 inches before I hit the bottom of the control arms and/or x member. Lol

I was going to start on my shocks yesterday, but I started to figure out what I was going to do when I realized one of the shocks I had of the two for the rear was bad, so I have to get a new set of rears before I start.

well it all depends on how high is your truck sitting right now with the stock spindles and how high are the control arms from the ground, but i think if you put on the 3 inch drop spindle you should be able to tuck your wheels in pretty good, you should get the truck on level ground or concrete and take pic of the rockers before and after the drop spindle to see how much lower it gets but your control arms are gonna hit first thats for sure keep us posted bro....

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build

Okay its been a little while, I have half of an update. Lol I got my spindles in a day or two ago and I started to put them on. I got on the drivers side and realized I was hitting the bottom of my control arm way before anything else. So I did some trimming there. I ended up only getting about two inches of drop and now I think my upper ball joint is binding. But oh well. Lol*
here's the pics.

Pass side w/o drop spindles
