Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
I must have not been very lucky, I was getting 8 to 10. I think I was always getting on it though cause it seemed like my truck took forever to get up to speed. Im really interested to see how well my 6.2 and 465 do in my k10. It has 3.73s and a lot lighter than my crew cab. Dont get me wrong I probably seem like I hate the 6.2s but I love them, they are good I guess they just dont bring to the table what I was looking for.

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
WOW, only 8-10??? Somethings not right with that. This is my first 6.2, but I have done a crazy amount of research on these things and have never heard of one only getting 8-10 mpg's. I literally scream down the highway and still get 18 at the least, and that is in a 4x4 1 ton crew! Might want to get that thing checked out. Good fuel economy is what 6.2's are known for, and that is usually the top reason people stick with them.

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
I literally don't even think that is possible to get that low of mpg's without something being noticeably wrong with the way the truck is running. You might wanna calculate the next tank out and see what you are really getting.

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
I would but the 6.2 and the crew cab won't be seeing eachother anymore. 6.2 went into the k10 and a 5.9 12v is going in the crew.

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
I think I knew that you got hurt too Think I read that in your thread. I hope you get better soon so I can see you build your truck! BTW I might be moving close to Pittsburg to go to the University there, they have a really good diesel program. Not set in stone though.

That is a good thing about the army, they take care of all the moving expenses. Me and the wifey are still trying to decide if we want to leave Alaska, it is pretty awesome up there, but very far from home

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
Everybody should try to make a trip to Alaska at least once in their lifetime, you won't believe your eyes when you get up here, it is very beautiful, and a good place to live if you like off roading, because we do it up here for about 6 months out of the year! It was weird when I first got up here in 2011 cause all the streets were just covered in snow, and where I am from that means that every thing is shut down and hardly no one is out on the road. In Alaska people are driving normal speed acting like no big deal, business as usual, takes a while to get used to.

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
Haha yes there are. That would be a fun drive. But with the luck of that truck so far I think I'd need to test it out closer to home haha. Plus I need to find a d60 shortly after I get it in so I don't bend my d44

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
18-21MPG?
You must drive different than me... I get 14-18 with 4.10's, 4L80e, and 32.83" tall tires. And you don't have overdrive, correct? I drove mine to Fairbanks and back, I averaged @15-16mpg. I did find out that I have a banks 3" monster exhaust, just missing the tail pipe. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1988 Crew Cab Build
Cause it was a 2wd when I bought it. Several brackets later and a rebuilt $50 axle and I had a 4x4 truck. I keep switching between dually and srw and with the price of tires I'm thinking it's going to stay srw and run 6 inches of lift and 37 inch hummer tires. In the future I want it to be a dually. But school and stuff takes my money, so I gotta go cheap for now.

My wife complains that I drive like a geezer I have not actually got 21 MPG's, that is from the mouth of the PO when I was looking at it before I bought it. But on the tank I went through when I was home I got 18. And yes, that is with the TH400, no overdrive, 31 inch tall tires, and all stock with an exhaust leak, and no tail pipe on either muffler, the exhaust is pretty much shot on it. My wife must be right, I AM that guy everybody hates to get stuck behind! What size is the monster exhaust on it?
