Now that you have it on the road, how is the pusher fan working for you?

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
Im still working all the bugs out of course. As far as the pusher fan. I have driven it probably 100 miles since i finished it. Havent overheated yet. Stays around 180-200. These engines normally run over 200. Gotta figure out if i got somethong wrong in the cooling system or not. I got black fluid that keeps showing up. I thinm its dexcool mixed with green. Im gonna flush the system and see what i get. Steering linkage is messed up. I think i may have the center link on backwards. The pass side where the tierod connects to the center link. The nut tightens all the way down and the cotter pin hole is like almost a half inch away from the castle nut. It tightens way too far. Other side barely tightens to the castle nut. Im thinking the taper or stud side is different per side. If not i got a defective center link

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
Man this thing is looking great!!! I've been following the build for a while now and I love it. Ive got a 55.1 that I am doing a S10 swap on and I was going to use a TPI L98 from an 88 Trans am that is laying around but I recently came on a 5.3L LS engine out of a 03 Silverado. It is basically the block, heads, intake and throttle body. Early on you briefly mentioned the parts needed to take the engine to where it is now. Do you have a detailed list of everything you picked up?

I appreciate the help. I hate to keep bugging about details but what cam did you choose to go with? Stock or something a bit more lumpy?

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
Sorry for the slow reply, I just used the stock cam. I haven't touched the internals of the motor other than valve stem seals. And ask away man! I'm not bothered by it, that's why i post! I've got so much information off this site, I wanna return the favor. I wanna help any way I can.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
the LS engines are insane bang for the buck when it comes to performance. The stock cam if you think about it (if a truck engine) is designed for torque. Your putting it in a truck that weights atleast 2k lbs lighter than the original intent..... I can only imagine how fun that would feel. Torque is what we are feeling till about 5,252 rpm anyway, then its usually all HP after that. It's like GM thought of this stuff way back when, seems to work out well for us in the long run.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
Oh yeah. The truck weighs about 3100lbs with me not in it. So its aptly named. Lol . This motor on this truck is PLENTY fast enough for me. My wife tried to drive it the other day and couldnt handle it haha.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
hahahhah the wife couldn't handle it, cracked me up. I tell my gal we aint getting married till she drives my truck. Its a standard so its gonna be a little harder for her I know that.
the weight sounds about right. I'd like to get my current project weighed when done, lot of fab work on it and welding, coatings etc. that stuff adds up in weight.

Haha. I want her to be able to drive it if something happens. She said it scares her. Here are some pics of my emblems I had made and rusted to match.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
So you are saying the truck intake is more than sufficient, Good to know. From what I know, the engine I bought had "lifter tick" and so I will have to replace the cam and lifters anyway. Here is another question, when you bought the LS1 intake, did you try to make sure to get the intake, rails and injectors in a package deal? Am I asking for trouble in the long run if I go with a mix and match package? Also what is a good price for these? I am seeing some outrageous numbers on "the worlds #1 bidding site" and unfortunately I can't find many locally through Craigslist.

If you can look for a ls6 car intake. These are HP readings off the same motor just swapping intakes. Not that a Small light truck would need more HP than a stock LS1 but hey why not. LS1 Intake: 464 hp @ 6,200 rpm & 446 ft-lbs 5,100 rpm LS6 Intake: 470 hp @ 6,400 rpm & 450 ft-lbs at 4,900 rpm Largest Gains: 14 hp @ 5,800 rpm & 13 ft-lbs 5,800 rpm Truck looks badass BTW..

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.
I got the intake, rails, and injectors all from different sources. Changing from a truck intake to a car intake is basically only for looks. you wont gain anything in fact if you use a LS1 intake you will lose power. LS6 intake is the way to go if you want to change it. I would recommend keeping the truck intake. It will save you a lot of money. I ended up spending an extra 1000 bux easily going to a car intake.
