Had a little work done on the photoshop forum and thats the direction I think Im headed ...Can I do a 4/5 with springs and not worry about alignment?

Decided not to return the Champion/American Eagle radiator today. With a little bit of work, some blood, and alot of cussing I think in the end she looks/fits pretty good

Nice work! You might consider some drop spindles and a cut spring for the 4" in front. I know you've got them wheels all done, but you should also consider the 5 lug / disc brake conversion here. What's a little more scope creep

I've been studying up on the dropping part. Looks like spindles are the only way to go if over 2". Thinking I'll probably hold off on dropping anything until later since the disk brake conversion opens up a whole new can of worms. Noticed someone (forget who) makes a 6 lug disk brake conversion..Guess I need to weigh the pros and cons and just do it...In 12 months

Ok guys the suspense is killing me...All the fluids are in. Rechecked every nut and bolt twice....Stared at the engine for two hours last night trying to find something I missed. Tested the starter and got it shimmed properly...Still havent bolted the torque converter to the flex plate per the advice of my drivetrain guy....I SO WANT TO FIRE OL BOOGER UP. Im sure if I hear boog run it'll give me a new shot of adrenaline to finish the job.

Before I do what am I forgetting? Any common mistakes? I know there is going to be something but I just dont want it to be a MAJOR something.

Booger fixin' ta BOOGIE DOWN! Don't forget the oil port under the dist. A friend of mine swears by straight water on the first fire, in case of problems. Make sure you're hot at the dist, and hooked up right. Good luck, don't forget the video!

Agree with the straight water for start up. If you got leaks, no yuk on the floor. If you gotta open it back up, no yuk. You hooked up your oil pressure gauge right? ZDDP additive for cam break in? If the timing is outta whack when you fire it up STOP and correct it. X2 on the video! We'll wanna hear that thing!

Thanks guys water only would have been a great idea but I already filled it with 50/50.Oil pressure gauge is hooked up. Elco is that the hole you were referring to? Video will be coming this weekend. Got a car show a few blocks away this weekend. I'll show up with no fenders, no doors, screwdriver ignition key, sitting on a lawn chair

Well she/he/boog fired right up and no leaks I can see...Got it timed and ol boog purrs like a kitten

Only hitch is the electric fans didnt operate right until I removed the circuit breaker. Dont know if its faulty or fans are drawing too many amps. Bypassed it and they work fine. Now to bolt up and finish connecting the engine to the trans so that boog can move himself without me pushing.

I'll take a video this weekend. Backed in the garage its LOUD AS HECK I sure hope its quiets down. Otherwise all is good!

Go boog go! Great to hear it went well. Happy for ya! If you want attention and a good yuk, bungee the battery to the aarm and roll to the show! Awesome. I did it with yeller the day we tore it down, you'd have thought I went up there naked! Great fun.

Murphy has arrived

Well the smooth sailing ended last night when Murphy arrived. Remember the last order of business was to bolt the TC to the flexplate? On the advice of the driveshaft guy and a little research online I made the decision to not bolt up the TC till after running the engine which appears to be a costly mistake. I had pushed it all the way back into tranny and used a piece of wire to secure it. After setting up the engine last night I decided to bolt it up and found it was already "secured" and already spinning with the engine. The bolt holes are still 1/4" away from the flexplate but its not spinning freely. The piece of wire used to secure it is no where to be found. I remember hearing a "jingle" noise when running the truck yesterday and when I looked under a nut had fallen from someplace and I just figured it was that. Now Im pretty sure it wasnt a bolt falling

I posted in the drivetrain section last night and it sounds like the converter snout may have come forward into the crank. I am certain of one thing its not budging.

Anyway I ended up having to work today but all Im doing is thinking about what may be screwed up. My plan is to drop the tranny and see if I can get the tc off. Im hoping the pump or god knows what else isnt toast. Any advice from those who have seen this before is always appreciated. I'll update when I get the tranny out this evening!

Hmmm no experience here but it sounds like you spun that pilot in the end of the crank and she's seized in there. Whether you do it now or after the trans is out you're gonna have to get them apart. Prolly a lot less messy if you can do it now. Pry bar? Good luck man and I hope that crank is ok!

Thats exactly what happened. I dropped the tranny yesterday and pulled everying apart. Appears to have been minimal carnage thank god BFH and some wiggling she came off after leaking all over the garage. Installed a new flexplate for good measure, reinstalled the trans,and booger officially just moved out of the garage and turned around on his/her own power
