Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
Don't know about survive but my 60 does exist still. I don't know about the rest of the truck but the gmc hood survived and is going on my later chevy.

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
Yes. It was heavily rusted around headlights, A pillars, rockers and front quarter panels. The underside of the rest of the truck had 1 to 2 inches of Nebraska clay for under coating. The frame, floor etc. were like new. It took two years to get it to this point. The seat was refoamed, my uncle was 6' 4" and 250. I didn't like sitting in the dent where he sat all those years. The seat cover was made locally out of snow mobile grade vinyl to match fairly closely the well worn original cover. My labs ride every where I go.

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
Well, I picked up this 61' Apache Big Back Window and Short Bed. I come from the Off Road side, so this would be my first project of its kind. I am absolutely terrified but excited to say the least. ''El Puerco''
Oh, and the hood is awesome. Nothing ugly about it ha! |

I really miss my 61. 60-61 in my honest opinion are the coolest trucks ever made! Someday I will get another one. Hopefully sooner than I realize.

Just a guess-amation, Del is a great fabricator and has taken 3 of my old trucks and moved them to icon status, you and your truck are definitely in good hands!!!!

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
It's funny how our taste change over the years.
We call these ugly because that's how we viewed them. This rendering has been posted several times, because it's so ugly cool.

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
When I first brought the 62 out this year I ran the 61 hood because the 60/66 hood was still in the works
either way - win win IMHO Last edited by robber grin; 06-29-2016 at 07:22 AM. |

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
I have to admit...I did not care for the early GMC hoods but after looking at these pictures...WOW...they really look good. The black one up above really looks clean!!! They all look fantastic.
Here is my 61 hood in the early stages of restoration...4 year restoration. Below is one at one of the first shows we ever went to a couple weeks back. Welded up all the seams on the hood and the front clip to clean up the lines. Even welded and molded the corner cowls before relieving a bit of the body line down the sides. Its amazing...people still love these old trucks. They always stop and want to share a story about how they wish they had kept there old trucks of this generation. To me...its these 60-61 hoods that really set em apart from larger number of 64-66 trucks...thanks for a trip down memory lane and allowing me to share... T
