I have thought about that, as that's how I had it before. But I wasn't to fond of the resonance and I want to keep the underside cleaner aside from the road grime I am already going to get. A pit picky I know, but its something I am just going to have to think about.

You can get rid of the resonance by having the tips point straight down at the ground and also get you a pair of Stainless steel Resonators from Allens.

Just a small update. Was going to go all hard lines, but I wasn't too fond of the whole look around the gas tank. So instead i am doing a partial hardline and partial braided nylon hose. Got the tank held in place so I can start cutting and running the hose. This is just a picture to show that some work is being made. Tomorrow I will be getting some more goodies.

Soo after a long time of being away from here. I've gotten a few things done and waiting for other things to be done.


First I received my Baer T4 Brake setup for the front with the CPP drop spindle. All ordered from AZ Pro Performance. I will definitely be ordering from them again. Here it is when it showed.



I think I totally lucked out that the silver they did for the logo matches up well with the color I already have.


Had the Drop spindle sent out to get sand blasted and coated the same color of the rest of components. Wheel Silver


And then the final product mounted.


Despite the extra money I had to throw towards this. I am glad I did it, it stirred up the pot and now I have some new motivation to go back to full throttle installing new parts.

Haha so who thought this build had died?!
Not so much. I am still here and I am still working on this build. I have just been quite busy with some deployments and work. Also the weather hasn't so conducive to working out in the garage. Now with the weather, more specifically the temperature, being much more comfortable. I've started back, and going hard on it.


So here is how the cap sits now. Completely stripped down of all its parts. Just the bare cab.



I decided to cut out a piece here (not really sure of the name) so that when it goes out to get blasted it will get into these areas where normally you wouldn't be able to. Glad I did as I found lots of dirty and debris even a wrench.



While the weather was nice and I was feeling pretty good. I decided to tackle the AC area. Here is how it looked before I prepped it



As you might have guessed, I am going to go ahead and smooth it out. here it is cleaned up and outlined for the piece to cut out.



Viola, here it is cut out and ready for the filler panel.

Panel fitted.


Panel tacked into place. This is where I was identifying the high and low areas and addressing them. Moving the panel in or out, then tacking those areas in.



Got all the areas tacked in....What a rook, notice the small blow through on the top left of the picture?


All filled in and wire brushed before grinding them down.


Final product for now. Here it is with all the welds ground down.



Now I am by no means a body guy or a master at welding, but I know my way around. I think it came out really well. With that said, is it necessary to weld it all in on the back side(with inside the cab)? I am more than likely going to do it just so the appearance will be nicer, but it's just a question I have.

At first I was going to reuse the old radiator core support, but it was rusted too much that it would come back. So I used some credit that I had with ECE. I went ahead and ground some of the rough edges and filled & smoothed down some holes.

Didn't get much done today other than filling in some holes and then getting them ground down.




So I lied about having it completely stripped. I just got to removing the transmission hump.



I am going to start attacking these rusted areas. I am really going at this kind of blind with little experience. Not knowing really how to start I am going to keep my cuts small to try and salvage what I can. Then once I get the replacement pieces I will fit the body to the patches. Anyone else got there there two cents to throw in?

Getting close to filling up the Firewall. Minus the the blower motor hole, that will come after sandblasting. For where the gas pedal will mount up. I went ahead and cut out the whole piece and welded in a new one. It was pretty warped and had a lot of holes in it. I wanted to make it a good solid mount up point. I breezed through it before even thinking about pictures.






Decided to open up the passenger side rocker panel. I was quite surprised by the amount of rust. Oh well, glad I cut it open.

Well I cut out the driver side and both sides are pretty much the same way.

So finally got some body parts out to the sandblaster.
Doors, front outer fenders, hood, and cab.

Also got a phone call from the blaster letting me know that he might have some issues with blasting the cab. There is an excessive amount of "bondo" by the cargo light. So I guess I will see what I get back and what work I will need to do.

So here are a few pictures of my rolling chassis. Not totally complete but things are getting close. Added the radiator core support, going to be putting on the panels and cab to get fitted. Things are moving along quite well.
Notice Rhodey also approves.

Here is the end result of the media blasting on the cab. Found some more trouble areas that I will need to repair and patch in addition to the rocker panel area. Also note the excessive amount of body filler. I am coming to the conclusion that this cab was wrecked at one point another before i got it. The rear right top portion of the roof is caved in a bit. Either way. I believe i can handle it all.

The front fenders, doors and hood got blasted too, I just haven't taken any pics yet. I am going to be getting a new driver door shell, and passenger side fender. All though these two are repairable, I just know after doing the rocker panels, I am going to be tired of doing sheet metal.

Yeah that crap job on the cargo light was my doing in high school. I will be fixing that too.

Have another trip coming up that will take up the majority of summer. Before leaving I went ahead and searched around for some body shops in the springs area and found one that will take my cab in and finish the rocker panels and align the doors. Hoping to get that over to the shop when I get back and then order some other body parts. Anyone have any pointers as to watch out for with shops and the cost per hour?

50 per hour is what I've heard is good to fair where I live in KS, and what I've paid on portions of my project. Good luck hope you find someone with good attention to detail.

I think you're on the right track. Try & find a shop others on here have used successfully. Last thing you need to worry about is being taken advantage of while out of the country.

Pinkees Rod Shop is in Windsor Co. See if they might have a reputable shop they would recommend as Pinkees is know for their hight quality projects.

Hey gents,
Thought I would drop a message here to show that this build isn't lost, just put on hold. I am once again on another deployment, and this is following a cold late winter in Colorado. Needless to say, progress has been pretty slow. With what down time I have here and the eagerness to start working on my truck again. I am developing a plan for when I get back home.

Before I had left, I was working on the floor and rocker panels. After getting one side in, I was not happy with how it turned out. Additionally, after lifting the rubber soundproof matting that is towards the front, there is significantly more rust. So I am opting to just go ahead and purchase a whole new floorpan. This should speed up a few things and may just save me some cost.






I am looking for some opinions. Ideally I would like to have metal in lieu of the bondo, but trying to keep this build going and within somewhat of a budget. I am leaning more towards leaving it and just cleaning up the lines so that everything is smooth. Any concerns, alternatives, ideas?



With all these rust issues, I am most definitely going to spray some kind of rust inhibitor within the cab, specifically the roof and the cowl area. I have seen that Eastwood has some rust inhibitors. Any others I should look into?

Well after a decently long deployment, I am back home. It's been nice to be back home. After about almost a month since i've been back, i'd say I have pretty much got my sleep cycle back to normal. Once I got a hold of that, I was able to get a lot of work done on my truck, as well as some R&R.

Not sure why i've been putting it off, I went ahead and worked on getting the Porterbuilt Firewall filler panels fitted. Also worked on a piece for the passenger side vent cowl.







Not long after I got back I ordered some parts, this is only one of many boxes that came to my house.


Also went ahead and sent my truck bed to the media blaster. This will be the last major part ridden of the red truck paint. Bittersweet to know that. Never really thought about it, but there is some sentimental value to that color. It was the color of when I got it, all though very much faded. Me and a buddy had also repainted it the same color.

From time to time, I like to reminisce about things I remember growing up. My dad was very particular about how things should be, in particularly with his truck. More specifically about his truck, he took care of it and kept it clean. I like to believe I inherited that trait from him. Here I am cleaning my DD. It was just cleaned the day before, but since the bed is gone it made for some extra room so I figured I would put it to some use it hasn't seen in a hot minute.
