Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
When I was calculating my driveline angles I used washers as spacers to put the carrier bearing where I needed it. I had a local shop machine a spacer to replace the washers.
I also modified my PB crossmember today to allow room for my exhaust. I hope to have the exhaust finished tomorrow.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
I can't leave anything alone. I was looking at the crossmember mod that I did yesterday and started worrying about how heavy the tail shaft of the transmission is. I worried the open gaps would allow the boxed sections to flex. I cut some small pieces of 1/8" and used it for gussets.

Being a gearhead gets annoying sometimes, no matter how good something is we always have to modify it to make it better!

Thanks Jason
I usually modify because I messed it up in the first place

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
I worked on my exhaust again today. It's all tacked together and I'm fairly happy with it, almost...I may lower the mufflers
I want to be able to remove the entire system if the need arises so I flanged the head pipes in front of the H pipe and I'm going to use a band clamp just in front of the trailing arm crossmember. I plan to finish my hangers tomorrow and finish weld everything. Then I'm going to have the entire system ceramic coated. I'm running out of excuses to not start pulling the green truck apart and prepping it to go onto this chassis

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
I finished welded everything from the h pipe forward this morning. The more I looked at how I had the mufflers, the more I didn't like it. I have been thinking how I want to raise my bed floor and where I want to put my air management and I realized the mufflers would be in the way. I simplified it a little and lowered them 4". I think it really cleaned things up and it will be less restrictive. What do you guys think, I'm hoping for some opinions.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
The never ending exhaust project is almost complete. I pulled everything back off and ran every piece through the media cabinet to prepare it for coating. My initial plan was to send the entire system to Jet-Hot to have it coated but their quote of $900 about made me sick.
I have a buddy on my department who customizes AR-15's and pistols and he uses a product called Cerekote. He told me it is hard as a rock once cured and is good to 2000 degrees. I called Cerekote and told them what I planned to use their product on and they said it would work great for my application. I ordered 1 qt of their graphite black for $132.00. I spent the better part of 3 hours cleaning, blasting and re-cleaning every piece to prep it for coating. My buddy let me use his booth and he sprayed it all this afternoon. The tech sheet says it will tack up in 35 mins and partially cure, enough to handle, in 24 hours. It's fully cured and ready for abuse after another 4 days. Only time will tell if it will hold up but it sure does look nice right now. Fingers crossed!!! I will pick it up tomorrow afternoon and get it installed for the final time. Disassembly on the green truck starts tomorrow too. It's getting real now

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
What do you guys think of the finished product? My main objective was to be able to remove the whole thing without any cutting. I'm pretty happy with it.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
Larry,
I degreased everything then prepped the surface with 80 grit glass beed. Everything was then wiped down with wax and grease remover and sprayed with two light coats. They recommend 1mil of coverage. Just made sure the bottle was mixed good and poured directly into the gun with no thinning. It sprayed like **** but flowed out nice once it was on. 30 minute flash time between coats. I let it hang for 24 hours before I touched it. They said it is fully cured 5 days after spraying. They also have a oven cured product but I didn't have access to an oven large enough so I went this route.

I hear ya I hope it holds up too!! They told me if I followed their prep instructions I will get years of service with no discoloration or corrosion. Only time will tell.
