Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

When I was calculating my driveline angles I used washers as spacers to put the carrier bearing where I needed it. I had a local shop machine a spacer to replace the washers.

I also modified my PB crossmember today to allow room for my exhaust.

I hope to have the exhaust finished tomorrow.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

I can't leave anything alone. I was looking at the crossmember mod that I did yesterday and started worrying about how heavy the tail shaft of the transmission is. I worried the open gaps would allow the boxed sections to flex. I cut some small pieces of 1/8" and used it for gussets.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

I finished welded everything from the h pipe forward this morning. The more I looked at how I had the mufflers, the more I didn't like it. I have been thinking how I want to raise my bed floor and where I want to put my air management and I realized the mufflers would be in the way. I simplified it a little and lowered them 4". I think it really cleaned things up and it will be less restrictive. What do you guys think, I'm hoping for some opinions.

Being a gearhead gets annoying sometimes, no matter how good something is we always have to modify it to make it better!

I usually modify because I messed it up in the first place

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

I worked on my exhaust again today. It's all tacked together and I'm fairly happy with it, almost...I may lower the mufflers

I want to be able to remove the entire system if the need arises so I flanged the head pipes in front of the H pipe and I'm going to use a band clamp just in front of the trailing arm crossmember. I plan to finish my hangers tomorrow and finish weld everything. Then I'm going to have the entire system ceramic coated.

I'm running out of excuses to not start pulling the green truck apart and prepping it to go onto this chassis

I hear ya I hope it holds up too!!
They told me if I followed their prep instructions I will get years of service with no discoloration or corrosion. Only time will tell.

Mike the exhaust turned out great! Did I miss what you did to the driveshaft? Is it spray bombed or is it CeraKoted too?

I masked everything with the driveshaft in place. I scuffed it and used dupli-color self etch primer then finished it with Eastwood's chassis black. All rattle can

Thanks Mike for the info. I was looking to paint mine but was looking to see if there were any other options out there.
