Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

It had over around 75k original miles back in mid April. I now have over 80,000 miles

The front desk of the transmission is bad, and it definitely needs new brakes and shocks soon

I had a AC belt put on it, and the compressor works!! Just blows hot air though ha ha.

How do I convert it to modern refrigerate so I can use the cold AC?

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Thank you very much.

Eventually I’m going to have to get the voltage regulator fixed, as the high beams short out and it scares me. I had the dimmer switch replaced and it still does it

It’s on the list. I’m not in the best of places health wise right now, and trying to manage my health issues first. It’s on the top priority along with the brakes

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Quick update. The engine, transmission rebuilds are in the works. The entire brake and suspension replacements are in the pipeline

Going back to stock specs and colors. Basically when my great grandfather popped the hood at the dealership and got him to buy the truck is what I am aiming for

The trucks got nearly 83,000 original miles but since I’m having the other stuff done, I figured I’d go ahead and have the stock 350 rebuilt

It’s going to be pretty nice when it’s all said and done

I’ve enjoyed the heck out of driving it and making memories with shows and joyrides in it

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Planning on buying new inner fenders, new gmc core support to fix the rusted out places in the front end of the truck. Going with a raptor lined color matched bed liner for the inside of the truck bed. It’s going to be very nice and when the cargo light hits it, it’s going to glisten and shine at night

Had an issue with the drivers side exhaust manifold, it cracked in half. Never seen anything like it. But it’s a first for me

Going to have the steering column rebuilt as well. The transmission is leaking from every where possible.

The front brakes and suspension will be replaced, painted semi gloss black and make it look new. The rest of the suspension and brakes will also be replaced as I’ve mentioned before

The engine will just be rebuilt since everything else is. Stock specs and colors. Air conditioning conversion kit. New radiator and hoses throughout the engine bay. 1 wire alternator too.

Keeping this truck basically stock. Just upgrading things for reliability and safety issues

I am so excited to have all of this work done

Great story, glad it all came together for you. I personally want to thank you for sharing your story with us. You now have a family heirloom to pass on to your kids and they can pass on to theirs. Our C10 has been in the family since 1983 and it will also get passed down to our children one day...one day way in the future. I look forward to more on your truck, keep the posts coming.

Cheers!

I drive it daily and I am honestly just astonished that I have it and am driving it. When I never thought it was possible. Quite literally, never thought I’d ever see it again. My mind was so stuck on it that I never stopped thinking about it. The thought would be suppressed for a while but would sneak back up when I saw a c10 or so. I had a 71 gmc custom, but it wasn’t the same. That’s why I sold that one because I wanted my grandfathers gmc

One thing I’ve learned about it all is.

You don’t tell me something can’t be done because I find a way

Everyone has said that I’m very determined once my mind gets set
