Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Don't get me started Shawn. It would be so cool to make a road trip out there next year.

Thanks guys. I hope to be done by this time next year. Tomorrow I'll tack weld the plates on.

I got my new petcock on. Actually used a small ball valve..

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I'm trying Matt but things just keep coming up that stop me. The in-laws came up today so no work. Mowers on the fritz. May need a new one. I may wait till next spring to buy one and just push it the rest of the summer.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Good news on the mower and my sago palm. The linkage was messed up on the carb on the mower and my palm sprouted out. So the wife and I transplanted it into a new pot and got a dolly for it. I won't let it get frost bit again.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Thanks. I was surprised that it sprouted out like that quick. I'm glad. We bought it when we went to Florida a few years ago. Its a cheap pot but okay for now.
The mower is an old Murray that we bought new 26 years ago. It had the original deck belt up until last year. Still has the original drive belt though. I'm gettin my moneys worth out of it. The deck will come off this winter for a patch job.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I tacked my pb hood hinge plates on and had the wife help me put the hood on. The gaps are better but still not perfect. I made a relief cut on the passenger side. I'll weld it up later. I will have to work the gap on the passenger side. The front is wide and the rear is tighter. The drivers side is a lot better but I may do a little to it to make it better. I also worked on the door latches. They work better now.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I like them pretty good. I wish they had come with instructions though. I used the thread that LFD wrote up. He did a good write up on his install. I had to run a tap through one of the plates since one of the nuts was too close to the edge. I had to file the slots on the pivot pieces. The bolts would snag in the middle. I will have to cut the eight bolts that go into the hood plates. I used bolts the same size and they bottom out on the inner structure. I haven't put the lift supports on yet. All in all I like them and I will probably install the next set a little different. I will bolt the plates to the pivot pieces and place the hood on. Then tack weld the plates from underneath. Of corse the wheel and wheel well will have to be off to do that, and the a/c heater box.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Those hinges really clean it up! My favorite is that pic with the hood on, where you can see the whole truck. That thing has a great stance!

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Thanks Matt.

I worked on the gap on the hood today. I cut it almost the whole length of the hood to get it right. Tack welded and then ground some. Repeated that about twenty times lol. I got some filler on it before the mosquitos came out. In the pic the gap looks big but that is with the hood raised some. I still have some more to do on the under side at the front. I'll get that when I take the hood off.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Two last pics are for comparison. I think they match now pretty good. Again, the first two pics the hood is raised some so the gap looks big.

I'll knock most of that filler off next week. I like to leave filler on to give it time to shrink and cure out good. I'm not in a hurry anyway.

That's cool. I wish I had those kind of fab skills. I bet your lines will look better than most new trucks out there!
