Not much room when lowered. Will have to shorten exhaust drop down in front of axle.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I yanked out the Moon tach (first picture) and put in 'ol faithful: Sun Super II (the rest of the pics). Not sure why I love these old tachs so much, but probably because they are what I had in my cars and trucks when a "bit" younger. Found this Sun Super at the Pomona Swap Meet (an AWEsome swap meet) several years ago - finally found a home for it. The Moon Unit (isn't that one of the Zappa's?) was nice but it wasn't my favorite, it came with the truck when I bought it - it IS nice, but it's one of those new tachs made to look old - like a mid-sixties chevy, etc. Hmmm - wait, that's what I have -but I still like the Sun Super II, the old ones that came out before the "Sunpro days". That's kinda like when AMF bought out Harley Davidson back in the 70's.... Maybe Sun Super Tach will come back too(?) I added quick disconnects in the wiring too so I can pull it if needed to work on other stuff. Maybe I'll set the redline at 7K just to make myself feel good.

Alright, not a BIG accomplishment, but makin it my own. This was much, much cheaper than the stock tach conversion from LMC(!) Maybe someday...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Jocko all your little zingers (like "moon unit") make for interesting reading. I get it, and can't help but wonder how many other members don't.

Depending on the "theme" you're after with your truck, the Super Tach II is spot on. Back in "the day" the first thing a guy did was buy a tach. And how many of you knew somebody that would dissasemble their dash and spend the extra money to put in a factory tach.... anybody.... know anybody that did that? I didn't back then. But nowadays it seems to be the norm. Too each their own.

Kind of like stock wheels. The second thing we did was put on a set of mags...

Makes you wonder what happened to all those OEM factory parts that were hardly worth scrap iron prices back in the day.

I do like stockers, don't get me wrong. But expressing your talents, your preferences and even your ecentric nature by changing things up gives us all more variety.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I dug my 64's bedside panels out of storage yesterday. Today i stripped the old paint, primer, and bondo off of the right side panel. It looks like i have a little more metal work to do than i thought.

Thanks markeb01 I have an old Fisher [mama bear] stove I've had for years, with a Magic heat circulater on the stove pipe. When I run outta wood I have a propane heater for backup I'm planing to stay warm this winter.

Absolutely nothing. Seems to be getting quite regular, and very depressing.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

lets see today I worked on the drivers side fender, I cut out the rust and cleaned it up, I then welded a nice new piece of metal in, I also added a bottom 1/2 of the fender that I got from Classic parts and also a fender brace, added a little more lip to keep the edges even, then I apply a light coat of long hair bondo sanded it and put a coat of classic gold bondo on and started sanding, its looking good.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Had a local sheet metal shop form my new tail pan.

Picked it up today a spent a couple of hours fitting it to the truck. It mounts between the splash pans flush with the cross sill at the top, and angles down about 15 degrees to the rear. The NOS lights came with 15 degree tapered mounting pads so the lights end up pointing straight back. Etch primer and paint tomorrow, one step away from having backup lights.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Removed the tarp, installed the cylinder heads, carb, intake, air cleaner, alt., exhaust manifold, etc....Got it started and drove it around the block after it sat for 7 years. Then I parked it in front of the house instead of on the side of the house. Good Times!!

LOL - me too. Was so excited to have the truck legal, I was 4 blocks from the house making the back tires go faster than the truck when I realized I didn't have my wallet (& the cop house is across the street from me)…

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

put a new rear-end in it and lowered the rear a few inches. has air shocks so I have the ability to level it out more. It isn't that much lower in the back than the front as it appears. I think the massive gap between tires and fender in the front gives it that illusion that the rear is far lower than front. Going to lower the front in the very near future.

Painted my new tail pan, and being the hottest day of the year so far (95 at my house) I just left it outside to bake.
