Former Marine myself. '73-'77. AV8A avionics/electrician. My Stepside has more hashmarks than me: PO who was a Sgt in Army was TDY at CamPen where he saw the truck for sale quick in the base news. Original owner was Navy Capt /Catholic Chaplain who had PCS orders [maybe to 'Nam]. I was a civilian when I bought the truck in '73 but was "possessed" enough to enlist a couple of months later. In '77 at MCAS Yuma my buddies helped me rebuild a 292 that lasted 25 years. Just installed another 292 for the next 250,000 miles.

I have looked up the other thread after being prompted and it is nice to see. when you travle the world with the military you realy do find out how small this world realy is. you tend to make friends in all difrent places and you can always look someone up (on your way through). It is kind of like a family. Along the same lines as a big car club or just a bunch of guys (and Gals) who all like and build the same kind of trucks. thanks again all!

Sorry guys to be a pesimist but this is a rediculus thread, who cares about the military or who was or is in it. I was and hated it, worst mistake I have ever made...Later Mike

No family like your military family huh? I gotta call on that one. The military is the last place where you will find people that stick together and look out for each other. Maybe infantry does a lil, but other than that its a big bunch of rejected old civillians that had no friends or was trying to fit in and couldn't...Later Mike

I don't think you'd recognize very much of it. Lots of rebuilding going on. But it's been a pretty good tour so far...quiet...could be alot worse.

A BIG Thank you to all that served, and all that are still serving. I seem to have missed Nam ( only 17 in '75). But my dad served from '42 to '46 at White Sands , and various "other sites". Dad worked '43 to '46 on the Manthann Project , triggering device enginner. Spent 2 months on the "island" for the deployment of the "the big one" heading for Hiro. He dosen't talk much about what he did back then. But he still gives all you guys a big salute that are serving right now. Latter the cheese.

Dude, I know a LOT of ex-military, a LOT, and your opinion is far different then anyone I have ever heard. Many formed lifelong friendships and had life changing experiences. Whatever problem you had, it wasn't the military- it was you.

This isn't a ridiculous thread either; I thought it was a good idea. Tell you what, tell all the WW2 and Vietnam vets your thoughts. I am sure they would appreciate your views after sacrificing themselves for this country.

I don't know what's worse- A hippy civilian badmouthing the military, or an ex-military badmouthing the military. I think the latter.
