Re: 56 Cameo build
Got The bed back from the painters. He did an awesome job. I need to decide what to put under the cameo sides to seal them to the bedrail. I'm going to check with the local pickup cap dealer to see what they use to seal the caps on the bottom.

Re: 56 Cameo build
After many years with long days and nights in the garage, ( with a little help from my friends ) I put the plates and insurance on the cameo. Now it is time to enjoy. Wish me luck! Thanks to all who have given advice, information, and words of encouragement. Tbrown

Re: 56 Cameo build
Thank you all. Took it to the gas station and one trip down main street. Don't want to get too excited until I get the front aligned.

Re: 56 Cameo build
Hey Guys, been a while since I last posted, so I wanted to let you all know how the truck is doing and what changes I've made. I took the 2" drop spindles because the front settled down and it was too low. Also changed the original oil pan to a Holley from Summit. It lines up with the crossmember. I scored on a set of chrome rear bumper ends so I sprang for a chrome front bumper and hood ornament. The local fab shop is bending me a piece to match the ends and we will make a steel rear bumper. Just finished wiring up the neutral safety switch and backup lights that comes on the 4L60E. Thanks to Nova 71 on the LSX swaps site. Made a hood prop up rod from parts from a junk yard. Lots more little projects, but really enjoy doing the little improvements one at a time and not having the truck down for more than a day or two. Tbrown

Re: 56 Cameo build
I haven't posted for a while. but wanted to keep up to date with my build, so here goes. installed the radio between the seats and put the antenna under the right bedside. made a speaker box between the sun visors so I can listen to the tunes. Also had the exhaust run out the back which made a huge difference on the noise in the cab and the sound outside. I have had a fiberglass bed cap that I cut to fit before I had the truck painted so now is time to finish it. It will add some weight to the rear so may help the ride and will be good if I take any trips to store gear. Happy with the results so far. The cap will fit inside the fenders so you won't really see the cap when looking from the side. Sorry for the upside down photos, but can't figure out how to get them right. Any suggestions?

Re: 56 Cameo build
My apologies if I left anyone hanging waiting to see the finished cap. Very happy with the outcome. I think it looks nice nd it helped the ride tremendously.
Next project is the rear bumper. I scored on new chrome ends so now I have a local sheet metal fabricator working on the center section, so hopefully won't be too long. What questions did you have on the seats?

Re: 56 Cameo build
I scored on a set of chrome rear bumper ends almost 2 years ago and finally got a local metal fab shop to bend a center section for me because they're not available anywhere else. They actually gave me 3 and they are the same gauge as the ends. and the one I am showing is not the best. Maybe by spring I'll have a real bumper. Tbrown

Re: 56 Cameo build
I see you have one piece windows. I’m thinking of doing the same to my 57 but I have bear claw latches and I heard it won’t work. How Hard was the install? Also are you running stock door hinges?
