Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
No powdercoated shaft for this truck fellas. I'm on day 8 of pneumonia. I'm not getting too much work done this week. Just getting the steering installed was all I was up to. Between going to work and resting, my shop time is down to just a couple of hours a day.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
You just hang around in this area too much. That's just a stock 72 small block truck bracket set and pump I detailed and powdercoated.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I'm sure everyone will hate the old man factor, but I needed a spare tire.
1/8 plate steel cut into a circle, bolt pattern template and two new wheel studs... ![]() Mark and drill lug pattern holes, weld studs into two of them, build center hub out of 2 inch tubing with a stud welded in the center sticking out, then sandblast. For some reason, I was having an off day with the welder. Welders can be like women, wonderful most of the time, but pure hell 4-8 days out of the month... ![]() I started to build something really trick here but finally decided to go old school with angle iron. I think this truck needs old school. ![]() Powdercoated it real thick with two coats of clear powder on top. It's vein texture powder which explains to texture to it... ![]() ![]() Welded a nut to the center of the 4 way lug wrench and powdercoated it with argent powder and two coats of clear powder... ![]() Final product. ![]() ![]() ![]() The reason the lug wrench is sticking out from the wheel like that is that I wanted to keep my options open so I have the ability to put an 8 inch rally wheel on the rack without the 4 way hitting the vale stem when I screw it into place. This wheel is a 6.5 inch van rally wheel. I know it looks like an old man's truck with the tire mounted here, but I needed the spare secured and not laying in the bed all the time in my way.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Kevin,
This has got to be one of the most interesting threads/blogs anywhere. You could probably write a book some day. When I get my 64 stepside on the road I think I'll drive it down to Texas and visit with you. With any luck I'll get done with it about the time I retire. Keep up the good work. I love the truck! Nice.
Good to see someone put thought into what most think of as a simple part. And good to see no bling, on that simple part. David |

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Normally I don't like spare tires in the bed, but with your truck, and the attention to detail it looks sweet!

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Nice, I like it! Only one question tho. Why did ya drill all 5 stud holes and only use 2 studs?

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
No real reason. I was going to go down to O Reilly and buy some more studs but I didn't get around to it. Then I was running a big batch of parts through the oven so I wanted to go ahead and get my powder on my own parts while I had it running.
