Amazing how much room an a/c takes up in a dash. I hate waiting. I went ahead and ordered the after market chrome a/c vents, should be here Monday. If you guys haven't picked up by now I'm not much for after market ie offshore parts but lets face it sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Another thing that I am doing that I'm quite sure will bend some noses, I am going to be putting a dark burrow wood veneer on my instrument cluster, glove box and ashtray. For a purist like myself it was a hard decision to make, I am painting two glove box drawers, two ashtrays and I have a ton of instrument clusters so if guilt overcomes me it will take me less than an hour to go back to factory. I lucked out on the door weather strips, I ordered two truck cab door weather strip kits and they fit like a glove, no modifications needed.

Oh by the way 3M ultra black weather strip glue is a $@$*# to get off your fingers. One thing about building a crewcab is that everytime you order anything you have to make it a double order due to the the extra doors, floor and seats.

We will be shooting all the jams on the doors today as well as stirring column, glove box drawers, ashtrays and fenders. Then the shimming begins. I am going to be putting the factory blank cover for the radio in until I can make a decision on what I am going to put there. I made a point of not buying anything for this truck that wasn't available the year it was built. If I can find a really nice am/fm 8 track player I will probably go with that.

I'm still looking for a nice set of 3/4 ton 4wd hubcaps. If you know of any please let me know, must be blue bowtie.

Also does anybody know what went on top of the carpet around the shift boots as a coverplate? Kind of looks unfinished without something there. Thanks.

Man, after a day like today it is nice to see your build coming together! I cant wait until things actually fall into place so that I can afford your rockers for my burb!

The shift boots had metal rings that went over the carpet on both of mine.

I have a few of the single bend transmission shift levers out of the 4x4s also.

I have some 2WD hub caps but they are yellow bow tie 73-76. I need to compare them to blue bow ties and see if they will pass with a color change.

Door jams are painted, I stood them up next to each other to see how identical they are and noticed a couple holes missing for installing door handle. I'm not sure if I am going to put them in this one but in the future will make a note to put them in. Overall I'm very pleased with the way the door turned out. Dashboard is waiting for the chrome vents that were suppose to show up today (I hate waiting!!)

Decided to order a new instrument cluster housing, for those of you who think chrome paint might work --- it doesn't it.

Over the last couple of days I have restored and installed all the parts related to the brake booster and master cylinder system. I have installed the engine compartment harness and finished up the dash.

I painted my instrument cluster to match the dark gray backing plate for the heater-a/c controls, very pleased with the way it turned out. Just finished installing fuel system, including fuel tank.

The picture of all the hinges that are hanging in the paintbooth will be painted tomorrow, would have painted them last week with the doors but at the last minute decided to rebuild them all.

I have started the process of repairing/restoring front and rear seat frames. I decided to go ahead and repaint them just to keep them in good shape and rust free. The doors and fenders should be hanging in a few days.

Starting to look more like a truck everyday. I had a goal set to have it ready for the Spokane swap meet and car show in the middle of July, don't think I am going to make it.

I know I keep saying that I want it to be just like off the factory line if they made one but lets face it there are some things our friends in Detroit could have spent more time on. I'm not trying to make a show truck but it sure isn't going to be as flawed as a stock truck.

Ok here is the question of the day, and I really would appreciate your input. I saw some ABS door panels, same colors as factory upholstered panels, and they look like they might be more practical, has anyone used these or seen them any input would be great.
