after looking, i see now that it actually did move the rear end a little bit forward in the wheel well. i never would have figured simply flipping the axle would alter the placement that much. i have to say that i am intrigued in this learning experience. thank you so much for your input dragginmetal. you have taught me something.

Yes, your looking at the top down in my pic. The U-Bolts sit where the red lines are.

I will have to admit with all the flips I have helped with this is the one detail that I have never noticed. So with that said I too have learned something here.

got-er-did! took the rear end back out, drilled the holes and set her back 1". the drive shaft mounted up perfect! (thanks dragginmetal) dragonwrecker got the parking brake hooked back up and we bled the brakes out, then took her down the road. dang what a rough ride LOL need to get me a set of drop shocks and that's that. once i get them on i may have a clearance issue with my brake lines where they attach to the pumpkin. (didnt have that issue before i learned the rear end was too far forward hehe) have to see when i get the new shocks on. and another good thing.....my son actually came out and worked on it with me some. which he BETTER since this truck will be passed down to him one day. GOOD TIMES!
NOTE: in the second pic you can see im out there working with my cast shoe on for my broke toe. yeah i know....im dedicated to my build

thanks. the 4" shackles just wasnt doing the trick. im actually thinking the front is a little high now. if it is its not by much. have to get the bed back on and get it out on level pavement. if so i think ill just cut a little bit out of my front drop springs to bring it down. thats all i have on the front drop. everything else is stock. any thoughts on that? i guess i should wait to get the drop shocks on to see how it sets complete?

You can cut 1 full coil off. Thats good for around 2". Any more and you might run into your coils being to short. I've read and allways been told, if you get them to short they can come out while driving. Never seen this tho. The common way is spindles with drop coils or spindles with 1 coil cut off stock coils. This set up is good for around 4" of drop. You will need drop shock when you go more than 2" in the front. You can do a search on this site for cut coils. There's a ton of info on it and a lot of debates over whether or not you should cut a coil or buy drop coils.

Drop coils alone are not gonna get him low enough. Even if he cut them enough, more than likely he'll never get the wheels aligned right. Keep in mind, i'm not saying it cant be done, just IMO he's not gonna like the outcome.

im with you i told him to get a set of spindles to go with them now that the rear is done.i was just chiming in on the springs to get you to say what you just did

yeah i have drop coils and i [I]believe[I] that they are 3" drops. i was figuring if i did cut em it would only need about a half coil out. also thought about adding drop spindles to go with em if need be. ill do a search on here and check all options. thanks.

$75 it was a chrome one like mine in mint condition he also had a painted one I was looking at now it can't find either. I'll let you know if I find them again.

yeah just wait till you turn 16 and start driving her around and all the ideas start flowing rapidly through your mind lol heck with ol blue i had her stock height, then beefed up the rear suspension equal to a 1 ton for hauling and towing, then lifted a lil bit with 31's and now......well you see her now its a never ending revolving door of ideas lol
