later that evening we went down the road actually, flipped a U turn and all with the laptop riding shot gun cause I still haven't automated the start up procedure, I need to do something called a pre charge (of the internal capacitor in the Inverter) then follow that up with closing both the negative and positive contactors to supply 351 volts to the Inverter, I almost got it but not quite

yes indeed, plus a lot of late nights, at least building an electric, I'm wiring at 1:00 in the morning instead of dropping wrenches and banging on things

I noticed something called TST, Truck Standard Time, that's when you walk past the microwave on your way into the garage and look at that clock and it reads 10:30 pm and you go oh I got about an hour to finish up in there and then it's off to bed, well what seems like an hour later you walk back past that same clock and it jumped to 1:30 am, that my friends is TST !!! can you confirm?

Very cool. Nice job.
Yes, the time really zips by. I don't even estimate my time consumption prior to, I just note how long it actually took after the fact.

LoL, too funny, thank you I appreciate that, and yesterday we did just that, thank you our forum friend Patrick this guy made the mistake of offering me a lower control arm for Dusty when she needed one, and now could probably build an electric truck with half his brain tied behind his back, price you pay for kindness

so we automated the BMW Safety Box control code so that the VCU pre charges the Inverter and if the bus voltage reading is above 300 volts closes both the (negative and positive contactors) this eliminates the need for a laptop directly connected via the USB umbilical to the VCU

I also got tired of test driving with the radiator cap laying atop the regular car battery so I shoved it into the radiator where it actually belongs

I am still in the delirious phase, so sharing some more silly test drive videos, we are getting more brave and had her over 5,000 RPM, here I am with a buddy who is holding a laptop just so we can watch the digital gauges that I modified and apparently done did it wrong, I will explain in a follow up post

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

this is what the default digital gauges look like and what mine read, I suspect Amps are not working because I am not using the ISA shunt but the OEM one in the BMW Safety Box, so I will be looking at that code next, as it will obviously fix the Kws as well

also since I did not lock the input shaft, and set MG1 torque to 0, MG1 is not spinning the rear wheels, that's why I just crossed out it's RPM and Temp gauges

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

and now a Top Tip from a semi amateur EV Converter: Here's what you do the next time you try to put your newly converted EV into reverse and it won't go, before dropping the transmission and rebuilding it from scratch:

Step 1. clear the lump in your throat

Step 2. check them wheels for one of these things...
