Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
thanks to a forum buddy who is now a good mate of mine, we put in a 12 hour day yesterday and aside from some non EV things the EV Conversion is ALL done !!!
let's just say we were on a roll and celebrated with each one of us taking a drive around the black, late at night... [ahem] under the cover of darkness (think no headlights) ! Last edited by Gregski; 08-27-2023 at 10:41 AM. |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
WOOOOOW!!!!! That is one sick looking ride. The ride height is just right. A little wider tire would look good IMO. Man, that grill came out awesome. If only you could work up some type of hide-away headlight covers that would auto hide them. I just wished you lived closer to me so I could see this thing in person. Great build, you have out done yourself with this EV ride.

and yeah in some pics those missing headlights look like they are hidden and that is indeed cool, but too much maths involved in that nonsense, ha ha speaking of headlights (I never let a hole go to waste!) |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
back to stuff we both understand, as I was cleaning this piece I couldn't help being so impressed with the quality of craftsmanship in it, and also full on serviceability, they just don't make parts like this no more

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
Kind of surprised the mirror wasn't replaced by a camera.
Are you going to put a playing card in the tire spokes to make an engine noise?

ha ha, that is so my wife, I can't stand cameras on cars, I am actually trying to do the opposite and quiet down the Lexus external electric transmission fluid pump (only running at 50% speed) as well as the Tesla Model S electric water pump (only running at 25% speed to keep the noise down) both use PWM for control and I can't even spell it let alone know how it works [ahem] under the hood Last edited by Gregski; 08-28-2023 at 10:25 AM. |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
so got some numbers for you all after the first attempt at a Range Test, I say first attempt cause I did do some dumb things like try to get it up to 75 miles an hour for no reason on streets not freeways
so I ran out of juice after only 20.5 miles, but before you take that to the bank, we were NOT fully charged to begin with (maybe only up to 370 volts I forget, and fully charged is 398) and I only have one of the two battery packs that I own installed at the minute Last edited by Gregski; 08-31-2023 at 09:08 AM. |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
People Just Don't Drive That Much No More
not sure where I read this and I should find the link for you, regardless please see if you agree or disagree because I find this interesting and so may you prior to the C word that closed the world down for 2 years the "average" American drove only an average of 40 miles per day, again stressing the word "average" here as I am fully aware many folks live in rural areas and have to drive 40 miles one way just to get to Piggly Wiggly's yes it's a thang post the pan dem ic the "average" American now only drives about 21 miles per day, think about it, as you pick up yet another AMAZON package off your front porch, and now with every thing from batteries to a deodorant stick being behind glass doors at Target who want's to go physically shopping at a brick and mortar any more? The convenience is gone! Average Miles Driven Per Year: Why It Is Important . |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
so now that we can achieve 88 miles per hour it's about time we strap in, so out with the ol's aftermarket lap belts and in with the MoPar three point harnesseseses out of a 2000 Dodge Ram van

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
so the first thing I needed to do is to liberate the stock bracket from the belt drum to give ourselves some wiggle room

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
I dunked the cloth belt into some ice water so when I gave the metal some heat it wouldn't go up in flames, seemed to have worked
first I needed to take out all the factory bends and flatten these brackets out so that we could put a nice 90°(ish) bend in them ourselves Last edited by Gregski; 08-29-2023 at 11:21 AM. |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
the female sides needed an extension so here's how I handled that, these whatevers with the two loops worked great, except I needed two sets of them as one of them loops is reverse thread and it was useless to me

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
both sides had these flux capacitors, so I just removed them, no room for high tech on this old skool rig

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
I can't find the pictures from the junk yard of how these was mounted in that Dodge van, but from what I recall it was rather peculiar in the sense that these are not symmetrical or asymmetrical in other words mirror copies of each other, they both seem to be identical and either can be left or right, passenger or driver
in the van one was mounted to the B pillar and the other to the seat, very strange anywho, this means that we had to pull out the Uno Reverse Card on one of them (the driver side, so a bit more fandangling) which explains why we drill out them rivets |
