Here's some pics of those parts I posted on previously at the powder coaters as he was picking them up! Look GREAT!

And here's the pedal assembly all put together prior to getting installed on my truck - new pedal pads & all! Look SOOOOOO much better than the originals!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
It's official - the rear axle is officially bolted up & in it's new home!!! Installation is still not 100% complete as it still needs the shocks & torque arms installed, but happy it's finally in there!!
They started painting my brake calipers today as well. You can see in this pic that the fuel tank & mounting for it still aren't complete... This is an agonizingly slow process, but we're actually starting to make good headway for a change! More pics to follow later I hope! |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Here's a couple of shots when they were painting my calipers up. Not really looking for a "racy" look, just thought the red caliper would look a little better peeking out behind the round holes in the wheels than a plain old cast look...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Here's another shot of the unfinished undercarriage. That ugly driveshaft needs a good coat of paint I know! Sort of a slow finish to the week, maybe this next one will get a big push!!!

Thanks man! Think the lucky part though is mostly with my patient wife!!! I am considering this my mid-life crisis - even though I am only 38...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
I am going to have to find all the brackets & accessories (including A/C) for the front of my motor now... Can't seem to find any complete kits for this either - Pace Performance sent me some info, but they were all designed for the Camaro or Corvette set-ups. I want the same accessory drive set-up that the 08 engine I started with would have had (except all new) to exactly match the 3-pc VortecMAX engine covers I have already. Sent an email out to the Chevrolet dealer there in Auburn, so hoping they can help out by piecing it together. Will keep you posted on what I find.

"Old" 6.0L engine is getting pulled back out finally. Now they can swap over the clutch & flywheel to the new Mast motor! Progress is always good!!!

What year did AAM start using the U-bolt style yokes on the 14Bolts instead of that junky strap type?

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Not 100% sure & honestly not 100% sure if the shop did this upgrade as I never really got to see this truck in its "original" state... They've upgraded everything else with stronger components, so figure it wouldn't be surprising if they did this too. That being said, this is actually a 2005 model axle, so could'a already been a part of that one.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Found this pic from a truck that sold on eBay recently. It's an 89 1-ton crew cab similar to mine & looks as if it either came factory with a rear tank or they modded it almost identical to what I am having done to mine!!! Either way their filler door is positioned almost exactly where mine will be!!!

Sure hoping that's how mine turns out!!! Working on getting Mario Novelli from Novelli Rod & Custom to handle all the body stuff & pretty sure it would turn out just as nice!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Well, looks as if Trevor finally pulled the trigger & went with a whole new hydraulic clutch kit from McLeod. Looks like a VERY nice set-up - comes with the lines & a master cylinder too!!! This will also allow me to retain the Street & Performance headers I had originally purchased as well!
New fuel filler neck arrived today & they said that Beau would get it welded on today & then they can start all the final welding of the tank & mounts. So with any luck hopefully that'll all be headed out sometime soon to be coated inside & out so it can be final installed. Finally got word from Ron Davis - the radiator is supposed to ship out of their place NLT than the 14th, so hoping it'll be in by the middle of next week... This will finally allow the front end to be fully mocked up so they can sort out the K&N intake kit & battery mounting prior to shipping out the core support & inner fenders for powder coat. Progress is happening & sure that Del being back has helped that tremendously!!! He keeps everything so much more organized & on track!!! Hopefully will have pics to share on or before Friday. |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Here's a web shot from the McLeod website that shows what their hydraulic throwout bearing assembly looks like.
And here's what the kit included: Internal Bearing/Slave cylinder assembly with (2) 11" stainless steel braided lines, (1) for bleeding (1) for input & (1) 3/4" Master Cylinder with remote reservoir. Already had a new Centerforce clutch kit installed, so that'll just swap over from motor-to-motor. |
