Re: My 58 Fleetside
Now you need to wash off the truck so we can see the green. This crapy weather has not been nice to my trucks! Did you get anything done on the drivers door?

Re: My 58 Fleetside
It was hard to get a picture of. But these are 2 of the courtesy lights that I installed today. The seat has more that shine forward and under the seat, but that is later. The blue is the dome light. My next jobs are the driver's door, a little tranny work and I need to decide what I am going to do with the front bumper. It's blue now, I think I am going to weld the brackets on so there on bolts on the surface.

Re: My 58 Fleetside
yes you can! gaps look good, take care in welding to move around in small increments so you don't pull it out of alignment. I protect the rest of the truck and do it on the cab so you can spot check as you do each little bit.

Re: My 58 Fleetside
Did you ever get the TV cable worked out? What more do you need to have it on the road?

Re: My 58 Fleetside
I didn't mess with the TV cable this weekend. Maybe next weekend. I need to put the inside of the doors together, the floor stuff (carpet and whatnot)seat put in and all the stuff out of the bed and I should be able to take it for a ride. I will need to get new back tires before I can drive it around. I also need the headliner, and I'm thinking I am going to need to get those arm rests like you got.

Re: My 58 Fleetside
Help me Orrie G you're my only hope.. I have these wiper motor pieces, first I wondering if this is a factory electric wiper motor or a after marker. From what Grumpy's told me if its a factory electric the new motor I have will not work and there is not replacement parts for the electric. Also the instructions I got are not clear on mounting and since most of this stuff was taken off already its kinda... yeah. The arms say left and right I assume that the left is driver and right is passanger. The bottom two pictures are my trying to snap a shot of the interior lights after dark I put in (my camara is not excited when I try this). They are all led and pretty bright, also have the seat in. This weekend I think that I finally got the TV cable set up for the trans. The next problem is the fan motor controller I got for the engine fan, it does not get ground to the relay, I will probably just return it. Tried to drive it down the street but it was a little low on fluid. Also is there any suggestions for throttle linkage? The one a made works but kinda sucks...

Re: My 58 Fleetside
I don't know what you have. Motor on the left does not look like mine. One on the right might be a replacement. I got mine out of a 57 GMC. It bolted in the same place as the factory vaccum motor. The brace on my truck is factory welded in. The electric motor has one wire for power, ground is thru the motor to the cab. It is cable operated, I think just a single speed. If your has more wires it is probably for multispeed. I think some later motors also have a wired ground for parking (I remember having an issue with my Chevelle motor). Below are photos of the bottom, driver end, passenger end and what I could get of the two rods. If I remember they are the same as the vacuum too. My drivers is welded, but that is because I had modified it for a previous 62 truck motor I used that had a different lever configuration. I think the lever you have with the fewest bends is for the passenger, the drivers is a little more complicated to get around the defront vent and stuff on the back of the gauge cluster. The motor park with the main lever oriented southwest to northeast. The passenger lever mount on the top (NE) end, driver on the bottom. They are held in place with two oval slotted tabs with a spring that fit over the groove in the drive rods. The spring maintains the tension to hold them in place.
For throttle linkage you might consider a mid 70s pickup, v8 and 4wd are the same. It is a cable pull that mounts on the inside of the cab on the firewall, lever is from above. I sold the two from my donor trucks to hot rod guys. Lokar and others borrowed the design and cleaned it up so it is purdy. Can't help with the other stuff, but I know the relay has to be grounded (terminal 86), with a fused hot in (terminal 30), hot out to load (terminal 87), and signal wire from a switch (terminal 85). I assume you tested the fan with straight power so you know it works, you can test the relay with a multi-meter. Might just be a bad ground or two light of wire (I would think it would need 12 ga for power, 14 for signal wire). Patrick

Re: My 58 Fleetside
truk wiper motor is the same as orrieg's
one wire in, cable operator for the slide switch on the motor. it is the same cable operator as the vacuum wipers. my motor is 2 speed, turn the knob half way for low, all the way for high. when i shaved my dash, i also lost the opening for the cable operator and knob. i used the stock chock pull cable to operate the wipers in the opening next to the light switch. pulled out is off, pushed in is on, they work and have arms, but i have never turned them on in 15,000 miles. rain-ex is your friend my wiper control cable is the only dash knob in this pic, in the off (out) position where there is a will, there is a way i have the stock cable operator knob if you need it. pm me.

Re: My 58 Fleetside
Thanks guys. Awesome picts again Orrie, I wasn't thinking the motor was mounted at that angle. I am pretty sure the motor on the left is a aftermarker because it has several wires. Also that is a great idea for the throttle!! It's just that mine is binding so bad and I knew that there had to be a better way. I am going to take a break from the truck and going to work on the 57. There was a diffently a Obi-won reference in there by the way.

Re: My 58 Fleetside
I just switched out a bolt in kit to replace the wipers to electric....it redefines the term " bolt in replacement "....it bolts in after you redrill the wiper arms to fit the hub.....the it bolts in if you redrill and move the new motor mounts 3/4" to the passenges side...and then...I should have taken pctures like you did incase someone else decides to do that update...great thread..great job....

Re: My 58 Fleetside
Found that the crank is a little rough for wear and am going to have to have it machined and replace the bearings. That would explain the odd knocking sound, maybe I shouldn't have believed the last guy who ran that engine. The old it ran when I parked it....
